Jaime de la Torre’s Inverted Ball-Point Pen Drawings.
Artist Jaime de la Torre creates fantastic illustrations with just a ball-point pen wherein he draws the work in inverted tones to realize his final product, much like how film photography uses negatives to print from.
Torre explains, “the technique basically consists of drawing the opposite… Instead of using dark shades for shadows and glare, shading is done in reverse. In this way I am able to obtain a negative drawing.“ From there, Torre uses photoshop to “flip” his image into a gorgeous, colorful finished illustration.
These are only a few examples of his work. There are many more to see on his website with videos and more showing his process.

Alexa Meade’s Optical Magic.
Artist Alexa Meade masterfully hand-paints her subjects then photographs them in such a way that it makes any semblance of three dimensions disappear into two dimensional wonders that rival magic in spectacle.

Interesting Art of the Day: Walead Beshty.
Los Angeles artist Walead Beshty spent a good deal of time between 2005 and 2014 shipping glass boxes via FedEx to create a fascinating series of sculptural works entitled, simply, “FedEx Works.”
Each of the works were shipped in an unbroken state and the final, displayed work was the result of their journey. This was done by using boxes constructed of laminated glass that would break, but not fall apart, which fit perfectly inside their containers. It was up to the receiving party to carefully remove each from their packaging and then title them pertaining to their tracking number, date and size.
Check out a video of Walead explaining his work for the 2008 Whitney Biennial below:
