Gain a new perspective on your writing with the help of Smithsonian’s Open Access.

Watch the video

Last year, the Smithsonian developed Open Access, a dataset with over 3 million objects from their collections for public use on the internet. Using today’s technology we can bring these objects to you in surprising ways.

After you write something, the application responds with images from Open Access.

Sound good? Then let’s go.

This project supports writing in Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish.

A project by Jono Brandel • with Sunny Oh and Hiro Yamane • Supported by Cooper Hewitt’s Activating Open Access grant • Made possible by Verizon 5G Labs • Research for this project was conducted at NEW INC, the New Museum’s art, design, and technology incubator, on the Cultural Futures track with support from the Knight Foundation
