The film was a super hit, even as it faced stiff competition from the high budget Prem Nazir starrer Padayottam. The film was a breakthrough for Joshiy. Aaramabham was later remade in Hindi by Joshiy himself in 1984, called Dharm Aur Qanoon, starring Rajesh Khanna which was a critical and commercial success. The film bought Joshiy national recognition. It was remade in Tamil too as Ezhuthatha Sattangal which was directed by veteran director K. Shankar, with Sivaji Ganesan in the lead role.
