Both species are found in evergreen forest in Africa. Although they are cuckoos they are not brood parasites. This indicates that they do not lay their eggs in the nests of other bird species. (en)
- Die Erzkuckucke (Ceuthmochares) sind eine Gattung aus der Familie der Kuckucksvögel, die zu der Unterfamilie der gehört. Anders als viele Arten der Kuckucke sind sie keine Brutschmarotzer, sondern ziehen ihren Nachwuchs selber groß. Erzkuckucke sind baumbewohnende Kuckucke, die ausschließlich in der Afrotropis vorkommen. Es werden seit einigen Jahren zwei Arten unterschieden, die zu dieser Gattung gehört. Der Osterzkuckuck galt zuvor lange Zeit als eine Unterart des Westerzkuckucks. Beide Arten sind Standvögel. Für beide Arten wird die Bestandssituation mit LC (=least concern – nicht gefährdet) angegeben, da ihr Verbreitungsgebiet groß und sie in Teilen dieses Verbreitungsgebietes vergleichsweise häufige Vögel sind. Выделение двух видов, принадлежащих к этому роду, и различия между ними были признаны научным сообществом уже несколько лет назад. Ранее считалось, что является подвидом вида Ceuthmochares aereus. Оба вида рода оседлые птицы. Ситуация с численностью обоих видов обозначена МСОП как LC ("вызывает наименьшее беспокойство", то есть не находится под угрозой исчезновения), поскольку их ареалы велики, и в некоторых частях своих ареалов они являются сравнительно обычными птицами.
