- Ο Κόρδακας είναι ένας Αρχαίος Ελληνικός προκλητικός, άσεμνος χορός, της αρχαίας κωμωδίας. Είναι χιουμοριστικός ως χυδαίος. Ο Αθήναιος τον βάζει μαζί με την υπορχηματική όρχηση, προσθέτοντας ότι και οι δύο είναι "παιγνιώδεις" (ΙΔ' 630Ε, 28), ενώ λέει: "Ο μεν κόρδαξ παρ' Έλλησι φορτικός", δηλαδή "Ο κόρδακας είναι στους Έλληνες, χυδαίος". Ο Πολυδεύκης (IV, 99) τον χαρακτηρίζει κωμικό λέγοντας: "Είδη δε ορχημάτων, εμμέλεια τραγική, κόρδακες κωμικοί, σικιννίς σατυρική", ενώ η Σούδα γράφει: "κορδακίζειν· αισχρώς ορχείται. Κόρδαξ γαρ είδος ορχήσεως κωμικής".Η εκτέλεση του κόρδακα λεγόταν κορδακισμός και κορδάκισμα και χρησιμοποιούνταν με τη σημασία του άσεμνου χορού, ενώ ο χορευτής του κόρδακα ονομάζονταν κορδακιστής. - The cordax (Ancient Greek: κόρδαξ), was a provocative, licentious, and often obscene mask dance of ancient Greek comedy. In his play The Clouds, Aristophanes complains that other playwrights of his time try to hide the feebleness of their plays by bringing an old woman onto the stage to dance the cordax. He notes with pride that his patrons will not find such gimmicks in his plays. Petronius Arbiter in his Roman novel the Satyricon has Trimalchio boast to his dinner guests that no one dances the cordax better than his wife, Fortunata. The nature of this dance is described in the satires of Juvenal, who says "the girls encouraged by applause sink to the ground with tremulous buttocks," so perhaps there was an element of twerking in it. The poet Horace and playwright Plautus refer to the same dance as ionici motus. Juvenal makes specific mention of the testarum crepitus (clicking of castanets). In the earlier Greek form, finger cymbals were used. (en)
- Le cordax était une danse lascive, provocante, voire licencieuse et souvent obscène de la comédie grecque antique. Dans sa pièce Les Nuées, Aristophane se plaint que d'autres dramaturges de son temps essayent de cacher la faiblesse de leurs pièces en mettant sur scène une vieille femme dansant le cordax. Le cordax se danse lors du symposion, deuxième partie du banquet, où l'on s'enivre, et pendant laquelle il est permis d'inviter à danser : dans Les Caractères du philosophe grec Théophraste, un effronté se cache sous un masque pour inviter à la danse alors que le symposion n'a pas encore commencé. On trouve également une référence à cette danse dans le roman de l'écrivain romain Pétrone Satyricon, où l'un des personnages se vante auprès de ses invités lors d'un dîner que personne ne danse mieux la cordax que son épouse. La nature de cette danse est décrite dans les Satires de Juvénal qui indique « les filles encouragées par les applaudissements tombent à terre avec les fesses tremblantes ». Le poète Horace et le dramaturge Plaute se réfèrent également à cette danse, sous l'appellation motus iconici. (fr)
- La cordace (in greco κόρδαξ,-ακος) era una danza buffonesca di origine lidia, caratteristica dai motivi delle antiche e che poteva anche essere eseguita da sola o durante una pantomima. Anticamente rappresentava proprio l'ebbrezza, in quanto consisteva in particolari giri e barcollamenti accompagnati molte volte da altri movimenti del corpo sguaiati e volgari; per questo motivo il nome era adoperato per indicare una danza sconveniente e impudica. Si pensa che la tarantella, con le sue movenze accentuate, conservi le vestigia della cordace greca. Costituiva, inoltre, elemento di contorno per i culti di varie divinità, tra cui (che veniva anche soprannominata Cordace). (it)
