- The Free State Cheetahs (formerly the Orange Free State), currently named the Toyota Free State Cheetahs, for sponsorship reasons, are a South African rugby union team that participates in the annual Currie Cup tournament. They are governed by the Free State Rugby Union and are based at the 48,000 capacity Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein. The Cheetahs have won the Currie Cup six times, with five of the wins coming since 2005, including winning the cup three times consecutively from 2005 to 2007. Since the advent of professionalism in rugby union, they have been considered one of South Africa's "Big 5" provincial rugby Unions. The Cheetahs are a very well supported team across the Free State as well having large fan bases in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Pretoria. They are also known as the darlings of South African rugby, with many other South African rugby fans adopting them as their second team especially when they take on any of the other "Big 5" teams. The Cheetahs average home crowds of approximately 17,000 in the Currie Cup when they play at Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein. Their biggest rivals are traditionally Western Province. However, in recent times the Blue Bulls have also become fierce rivals of the Cheetahs. (en)

- Free State Cheetahs es un equipo profesional de rugby fundado en 1895 en Bloemfontein, y que compite anualmente en el campeonato sudafricano, la Currie Cup. El club está dirigido por la Free State Rugby Union, que también dirige al equipo de los Cheetahs que compitió en el Guinness Pro 14 hasta 2020, fecha en la que fue excluido del torneo. Creado en 1895, el equipo tuvo su primer éxito en 1976, año en el que ganó su primera Currie Cup frente a Western Province. En 2005, 2006 y 2007 repitió este éxito, si bien antes de 2005 perdió 8 finales, y el equipo tenía fama de 'pierde finales'. Desde la llegada del profesionalismo al rugby y la creación del torneo Super 12 (hoy Super 15), el club esperó unos años hasta lograr ser la base sobre la que formó el equipo de los Cheetahs, uno de los 5 equipos sudafricanos que competían en el torneo Super 15 contra equipos neocelandeses y australianos por el cetro del rugby en el Hemisferio Sur, hoy el Guinness Pro 14 del Hemisferio Norte. Sono governati dalla Free State Rugby Union che si occupa dell'organizzazione del rugby nella provincia di Free State. La squadra disputa le gare casalinghe al Free State Stadium di Bloemfontein, città sede del club. I Cheetash hanno vinto sei volte la Currie Cup, tre volte consecutivamente dal 2005 al 2007, e una Vodacom Cup. Fin dall'avvento del professionismo sono stati considerati una delle cinque federazioni provinciali più importanti del Sudafrica.
