- The Georgi Dimitrov Mausoleum (Bulgarian: мавзолей на Георги Димитров) was a ceremonial tomb on Prince Alexander of Battenberg Square in Sofia, Bulgaria. It was built in 1949 to house the embalmed body of Georgi Dimitrov, the first leader of Communist Bulgaria. After his death in 1950, the second communist leader of Bulgaria, Vasil Kolarov, was buried in the second niche of the east wall of the mausoleum. In 1999, following a heated public debate, it was destroyed by Ivan Kostov's UDF government. (en)

La construcción del Mausoleo se inició después de la noticia de la muerte de Dimitrov. Fue construido durante un tiempo récord de tan sólo 6 días durante la extinta República Popular de Bulgaria, el tiempo necesario para que el cuerpo de Dimitrov volviera a Sofía de la URSS. El cuerpo del primer dirigente comunista de Bulgaria se mantuvo allí hasta agosto de 1990, cuando fue incinerado y enterrado en el cementerio central de la ciudad. El Mausoleo fue destruido por el gobierno encabezado por la UDF de Iván Kostov en 1999 después de un fuerte debate en todo el país. Los destructores del mausoleo fueron acusados de "fascismo, barbarie y vandalismo" por parte de los comunistas. (es)
