- Haemanthus coccineus, the blood flower, blood lily or paintbrush lily, is a species of flowering plant in the amaryllis family Amaryllidaceae, native to Southern Africa. Growing to 35 cm (14 in) tall and wide, it is a bulbous perennial with short brown stems surmounted by red flowers, the flowers appearing in spring and summer, before the strap-shaped leaves. The generic name Haemanthus is derived from the Greek words haima for blood and anthos for flower; coccineus is the Latin word for red or scarlet. In the Afrikaans language it is known as bergajuin, bloedblom, and many other vernacular names. (en)

- Haemanthus coccineus is een soort uit de narcisfamilie (Amaryllidaceae). Het is een overblijvende bolgewas met een korte bruine en een rode bloem. Na de bloei komt het blad tevoorschijn, meestal twee bladeren, maar soms ook drie. Verder worden de bloemen snel gevolgd door doorschijnende, vlezige bessen. Deze bessen hebben een witte tot bleke of roze kleur. De soort komt voor van in van Namibië tot in het zuiden en oosten van de Zuid-Afrikaanse Kaapprovincie. Hij groeit in Karoo-velden, fynbos en renosterveld, op een hoogte die varieert van zeeniveau tot 1200 meter.
