- El virus o'nyong'nyong o virus o'nyong-nyong es un virus que fue aislado por primera vez por el en Entebbe, Uganda en 1959. El virus puede infectar humanos y causarles enfermedad, aunque no la muerte. Se transmite por picaduras de un mosquito infectado. Es el único virus cuyos vectores primarios son mosquitos del género Anopheles ( y Anopheles gambiae). La enfermedad causada por el virus se conoce como fiebre o’nyong’nyong, con síntomas como fiebre, rash, , entre otros. Hubo probablemente tres epidemias conocidas de fiebre o’nyong’nyong, una entre 1959 y 1962, situación en la que se descubrió el virus, en Uganda y alrededores hasta Mozambique afectando a dos millones de personas, otra entre 1996 y 1997 confinada a Uganda, y hay evidencias de una anterior entre 1904 y 1906. - The o'nyong'nyong virus (ONNV) was first isolated by researchers at the Uganda Virus Research Institute in Entebbe, Uganda, during a large outbreak of a disease in 1959 that resembled dengue fever. ONNV is a togavirus (family Togaviridae), genus Alphavirus, is closely related to the chikungunya and Igbo Ora viruses, and is a member of the Semliki Forest antigenic complex. The name was given to the disease by the Acholi tribe during the 1959 outbreak. The name comes from the Nilotic language of Uganda and Sudan and means “weakening of the joints". - Le virus de l'o'nyong-nyong ou virus o'nyong-nyong est une espèce de virus à ARN monocaténaire de polarité positive (groupe IV de la classification Baltimore) appartenant au genre Alphavirus de la famille des Togaviridae. Apparenté au virus du chikungunya, il s'agit d'un arbovirus transmis par des moustiques du genre Anopheles, notamment les espèces Anopheles gambiae et (en). Chez l'humain, il provoque une maladie tropicale appelée o'nyong-nyong, d'un mot d'origine nilotique donné par les Acholi d'Uganda et du Soudan signifiant « qui casse les articulations ». Il a été décrit pour la première fois en 1959 lors d'une vaste épidémie en Afrique subsaharienne. Il entraine un syndrome aigu fébrile avec arthralgies des genoux, chevilles, mains et pieds, suivies d'un exanthème maculopapuleux associé parfois à un énanthème buccal. Il se transmet lors d'une piqûre par le moustique anophèle. (fr)
