- Saorview (prononcé : [ˈsɑərvju]) est le service national de la télévision numérique terrestre (TNT) en Irlande. Il appartient à RTÉ et est exploité par 2RN (RTÉ Networks). Saorview est disponible à partir de 64 émetteurs TNT couvrant 98% de la population à la fin du troisième trimestre 2012. L'ancien réseau de télévision terrestre analogique (ATT) fut disponible pour 98% de la population à partir de 150 émetteurs ATT, mais TV3 et TG4 ne furent pas disponibles sur tous les émetteurs. Le service est une diffusion HD DVB-T / MPEG-4 qui est reçue via un récepteur STB (set top box) ou une antenne iDTV et UHF. MHEG-5 est la norme middleware pour le télétexte numérique. Les informations sur le programme sont affichées via l'EPG intégré du récepteur. Les sous-titres DVB ou Télétexte peuvent être affichés lors de la diffusion. Mary Curtis devint directrice du passage au numérique (DSO) en septembre 2010 et relevait du directeur général. Elle supervisa la transition de la diffusion de la télévision analogique à la télévision numérique, qui se termina en octobre 2012. (fr)

The service began operation on 29 October 2010 on a trial basis with a full launch on 26 May 2011. By legislation it was required to be available to approximately 90% of the population by end of October 2010 in a public testing capacity and nationwide by December 2011. The national public launch was preceded by a public information campaign, which began on 15 March 2011, with television and radio advertising beginning on 17 March 2011. Saorview was officially launched on 26 May 2011 by Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources Pat Rabbitte and the service became the primary source of broadcast television in Ireland following the ending of analogue transmissions on 24 October 2012.
