Willem van Ravesteyn (Rotterdam, 15 October 1876 – Rotterdam, 10 June 1970) was a Dutch Communist politician and historian. Ravesteyn studied history at the University of Leiden and was involved in setting up the local branch of the Dutch Social Democratic Workers' Party (SDAP) in 1898.With David Wijnkoop and Jan Ceton he was on the editorial board of the left-wing Marxist newspaper De Tribune when it was set up in October 1907. However, Pieter Jelles Troelstra and , the reformist leaders of the SDAP, found this unacceptable and organised a special congress to discuss throwing out De Tribune from the party. They were able to get a clear majority for this at the congress held on February 14, 1909. The De Tribune group founded the Social Democratic Party (SDP) on March 14, 1909.

Trouwde op 8 september 1910 met Johanna Wismeijer, met wie hij een zoon kreeg. Was bevriend met David Wijnkoop en werd bij het zogenoemde uit de SDAP geroyeerd. Stond daarna mede aan de wieg van de SDP en was van 1916-1925 hoofdredacteur van De Tribune en van 1918-1925 lid van de Tweede Kamer. Van 1919 tot 1927 lid van de gemeenteraad van Rotterdam. In 1926 werd hij uit de CPH (de voorloper van de CPN) gestoten. In 1927 trok hij zich uit het actieve politieke leven terug en werd tot zijn pensionering in 1941 conservator van de Gemeentebibliotheek van Rotterdam.
