Zhang Lei is the founder, chairman and CEO of Hillhouse Capital Group, which manages $14 billion ins assets for investors including the world’s top university endowment funds and family foundations. One of the largest funds in Asia, Hillhouse is committed to long-term equity investments and uses a rigorous and in-depth bottom-up approach and investment philosophy to invest in opportunities in both public and private markets across a wide range of industries.
Mr. Zhang holds a master’s degree in business administration and international relations from Yale University and a bachelor’s degree in economics from Renmin University of China. Mr. Zhang is the vice chairman of the board of trustees of Renmin University of China. He is also a member of the Yale Council of Trustees and chairman of the Yale Asian Development Committee. He is also a board member of several leading companies in China, including JD, the largest internet retailer in China and Asia, Qunar, an online travel platform, blue moon, by far the world leader in China’s liquid detergent industry, and Global Mediacom, Indonesia’s largest television and pay TV media group.
Zhang is a trustee at the Brookings Institution and a board member of the Financing & Capital Council of the World Economic Forum,. He is also a director of the China-U.S. exchange foundation, a non-profit organization founded in 2008 and chaired by Tung Chee-hwa, the first chief executive of Hong Kong.
