The idea as articulated by observers is that somehow Google benefits by getting the opportunity to move into display ads. That is as absurd as needing to buy YouTube to be in the video biz.
Isn't this really about spending limited $ to remove potential competitors from the marketplace. In this case, a combination of Double Click and MS or YHOO technology would come closer to your AdSense than anyone currently gets.
Taking them out eliminates that prospect.
