About

I am an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Informatics of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), in Brazil . My work focuses on efficient and novel filters for images and videos, and I am generally interested in space-frequency analysis, sampling theory, image and signal processing, computer graphics, and applied mathematics. I am actively looking for students interested in these areas who wish to pursue a master's degree or undergraduate studies. I hold a Ph.D. in Computer Science from UFRGS where I worked with Manuel M. Oliveira. Our research on efficient high-dimensional filtering for image and video processing was awarded the inaugural ACM SIGGRAPH Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award and first place in the Brazilian Computer Society's Doctoral Dissertation Contest.

2020 / 08  Our Domain Transform edge-aware smoothing filter is included in GIMP. You can find it under "Tools" > "GEGL Operation" > "Smooth by Domain Transform". Try it out! Implementation by Felipe Kersting.

2017 / 08  Our paper on Spectral Remapping will be presented at SIGGRAPH 2017.

2016 / 07  We received the inaugural ACM SIGGRAPH Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award at SIGGRAPH 2016. My talk is available online.

2016 / 06  We got first place in the Brazilian Computer Society's Doctoral Dissertation Contest at CSBC 2016.

2015 / 11  I've released an updated version of our Non-Uniform Filtering source code for Julia v0.4. A static version of our Jupyter notebook is available online.

2015 / 05  Our paper on Non-Uniform Filtering has received an Honorable Mention at the Eurographics 2015 Best Paper Award.
