Brief Description
The Board of Nursing proposes to change regulations on the application requirements for licensure as an advanced practice registered nurse or certification as a certified nurse aide; update classroom curriculum requirements for certified nurse aide training programs to include the federal requirements relating to care of a patient with dementia or other neurodegenerative disease; authorize the delegation of medication administration to a certified medical assistant; and to update definitions.
The Board of Nursing (Board) proposes to adopt regulation changes in Title 12 of the Alaska Administrative Code dealing with applications for licensure and certification, classroom curriculum, delegation authority, and definitions, including the following:

These changes are intended to streamline and clarify the application process.
- 12 AAC 44.317 is proposed to be amended updating the requirements for a license that has lapsed or been in retired status for more than one year but less than 5 years to include the applicant’s international nursing license history, bringing the updated provision into conformance with the remainder of the section.
- 12 AAC 44.810 is proposed to be repealed and readopted to update the requirements for an application for certification as a certified nurse aide to clarify the application process and align the application with other license application requirements under 12 AAC 44.
- 12 AAC 44.845 is proposed to be amended to align certified nurse aide training program classroom curriculum requirements with the federal requirements relating to care for patients with dementia or other neurodegenerative diseases.
- 12 AAC 44.965 is proposed to be amended to include certified medical assistants on the list of health care professionals authorized to be delegated to administer medication.
