Jack M. Wang

My research interests center around understanding human motion synthesis and control.  This poses questions such as: Why does human walking look the way it does? How can we control robots to move with the agility and robustness of humans? Can we construct effective motion models from empirical data? My 2012 paper Optimizing Locomotion Controllers Using Biologically-Based Actuators and Objectives won the ACM SIGGRAPH 2023 Test-of-Time award.

My work makes substantial use of machine learning, physical simulation, and biomechanics.  Applications include computer animation, robotics, 3D motion tracking, and human movement science.  I completed my Ph.D. in 2010 (Thesis: Locomotion Synthesis Methods for Humanoid Characters) at the Department of Computer Science, University of Toronto
