Commentaire à la une
I always found this show quite grotesque as a child.
Let's first come to the intro: The characters jump around like crazy, making shrill singing, farting and sniffling noises, and drooling.
The character design is, in my opinion, quite disturbing: almost all of the characters have a really weird bulbous nose, which, due to its color, looks like a tomato, potato or plum. Sagebrush Sid, Tex Avery's opponent, also has two equally strange pointed ears in addition to his red bulbous nose (which, in combination with his rough voice, suggests that he is a heavy alcoholic). And of all people, Einstone (one of two fairly likeable characters in this show - I'll talk about him and the others further down) has the ugliest nose of all: a thick, droopy nose covered in warts and hair. The stupid cavemen that Einstone always has to deal with are shaped like salt or pepper shakers. The worst thing, however, is the character design of Freddy the Fly, who looks like a stereotypical tramp.
The drawing style is average at best.
Now let's get to the content of the show and the behavior of the characters: What bothers me most is that the "good" characters in this show are often much more devious and sadistic than their "evil" counterparts. By that I mean Freddy the Fly, Pompeii Pete, Khannie and Maurice. It has also been occasionally implied that some characters (such as the cavemen in the Einstone segment and Pompeii Pete) are only feigning stupidity to drive their opponents insane or into dangerous/painful situations.
The only likeable characters in this show for me are:
1) Einstone, who, despite being the main character of his segment and one of the few likeable characters in the show, always gets everything while the stupid cavemen who surround him always get nothing.
2) Power Pooch: Although he is a "heroic fool" and I find it a bit odd that he has to chew on a superhero's smelly old shoe to become a superhero, he behaves in a morally exemplary manner, unlike most of the other characters in this show.
Furthermore, the humor in this show is mostly quite crude, obscene, or (in many instances) simply unfunny.
The worst episodes I can remember, in my opinion, are "Breakfast In Bedlam" (Maurice & Mooch), "Dawn of the Dan" (Pompeii Pete) and "Bored of the Flies" (Freddy the Fly).
Since this show at least has two likeable characters (even if their segments may be as bad in content as the rest of the show), I'm giving it two instead of one out of ten stars.
