Featured review
In one of his first directing assignments, writer David Stanley comes a'cropper with "freshmanitis", that malady afflicting fledgling filmmakers (and novelists) who try to cram too many pent-up ideas into their story, at its detriment. The misleading title was interpreted by me to mean "big deal", which it ain't.
There's a plethora of characters, subplots and even 9, count 'em, 9 hardcore sex scenes bloating a modest little picture. Main adversaries are bad guy Tom Byron, bearing an unusually short bleached-blond hairdo to portray TV pitchman Frank Joseph, "The Fishing Cowboy", vs. Steven St. Croix, another bad guy as a gangster kingpin in a wheelchair. Their peculiar traits are part and parcel of Stanley's familiar absurdist approach to storytelling as he works in dozens (or is it hundreds by now?) of porn videos that bring to the Adult industry a sensibility closest in Mainstream counterparts to the Coen Bros.
The plot developments and twists & turns including much courtroom action worthy of a "Perry Mason" episode, are best viewed rather than described, but afford a bevy of leading ladies momentary showcase for erotic content. Notable among them are Sindee Coxx and superstar to be Stephanie Swift, with the biggest surprise that this effort is not for Vivid, Wicked, Adam & Eve or even Sin City, but rather has Stanley working for that leading gonzo label (then and now) Patrick Collins' Elegant Angel. Of the thousand or so titles Collins has released over the years, only Axel Braun's "Compulsion" and a couple of recent high-profile Graham Travis movies qualify as story-line porn to follow-up on this earlier failure.
