While already developing Macocky, directors Ivon and Eyan Wuchina met Rory Culkin at a screening of his film Gabriel at the 2014 Indie Memphis Film Festival. They showed him the Macaulay Culkin doll that was to be used in the film and was coincidentally in their car. Rory said his brother Macaulay has the same doll and gave his blessing for the project.
