FX Sets a Date for Season Three of Its Surreal Elijah Wood Comedy ‘Wilfred’
“Wilfred,” FX’s quirky comedy about a depressive young man named Ryan (Elijah Wood) and the titular canine that he and only he sees as a grumpy Australian guy (Jason Gann) in a dog suit, will return for a third season on Thursday, June 20th. The show will kick off with back-to-back episodes but without “Louie,” with which it was paired last year, as Louis C.K.’s series is taking the year off. The change doesn’t seem likely to affect “Wilfred” much — though “Louie” gets more critical attention, “Wilfred” actually slightly outpaced it in ratings last year.

“Wilfred” is an adaptation of an Australian series that was created by Gann alongside Tony Rogers and Adam Zwar, and also features Fiona Gubelmann as Jenna, Ryan’s neighbor and Wilfred’s owner, and Dorian Brown as Kristen, Ryan’s uptight sister. The show’s been notable for its guest stars, which this season include the returning Chris Klein, Mary Steenburgen and Dwight Yoakam as well as Gina Gershon, Angela Kinsey, Jenny Mollen and Lance Reddick.
