This is by far the best crypto presentation I’ve seen in a while- In Murad Mahmudov's refreshingly candid talk at TOKEN2049 last month, he slams major #crypto projects, #VCs and #influencers implying that they are a collective scam operation that push narratives on projects that in fact have no real #economic value, list altcoins on exchanges when they are massively overvalued and then dump them on unsuspecting retail investors. Instead he makes the point that the token IS the product, not the software- and hence #memecoins are far better investments than VC-funded crypto projects because they are truly democratic and enable retail investors to get rich Most intriguingly, he makes the case that memecoins will actually replace #religion in the long term- by providing a sense of shared values, community and belonging that religion used to provide, but is now waning especially in the western world Worth a watch. Nvidia the most valuable company in the world. A market cap of 3.11 Trillion USD. But what about the PE ratio? Price to earnings, ie revenue... NVDA is a revenue machine, and they currently have a monopoly. Looking at the PE ratio you can get a much better picture of the company over time, how overpriced/underpriced it is. See the bottom chart, blue bar. - The current PE ratio is around 73x - The 10 year PE ratio was lower at around 49x - The 5 year PE high was around 146x in Q2 2023 The 5 year PE high happened right before the companies stock priced doubled in a quarter, ie CHATGPT. The market priced in some expected value from future datacenter GPU sales. This paid off. The stock price was around $28 USD in April 2023, with the 146x PE. The stock price now is around $120 USD with the 73x PE. Which is close to the 5 year PE average. NVDA is a revenue machine, AMD is not even in the race. Future predictions are impossible. What is always true is reversion to the mean. Questions I think about: - So are the datacenter sales going to slow down? - What is market saturation for GPUs? - Will AI inference and training get more efficient, needing less GPUs? - By what degree is AI overhyped, dictating future datacenter demand growth. - How will the consumer market increase? - Will governments GPUs demand change? Nationalistic sentiments around AI. - What IP moats has NVDA created? GPUs are not something you need to buy every year. The other factor is electricity use running a 48gb consumer GPU is expensive this naturally limits the consumer demand to 'professional' use. Not quite a Benjamin Graham style 'value investor', the price is directly proportional to AI hype. Short or Long.

Most discussions around Blockchain/Web3 are always focused on BTC/ETH #ETF, #DeFi, #L1/L2/L3 for quick returns, leading to an over-saturation of unused infrastructure and many dying projects. Not much attention is given to the relevance of #Web3 and the Creator Economy. Temu Founder Actually Shopping Like a Billionaire: Has Amazon Worried Interesting story from Bloomberg last week reported that the former Googler and Pinduoduo founder, Colin Huang. Started Pinduoduo in 2015 selling extremely cheap products with incredible promotions. Grew quickly and became his net worth became $71.5B in 2021 at COVID's peak. From there it came crumbling down 87% in a year. But the company created the Temu brand to expand out of China, and expand it has. Now Mr. Huang is China's richest person according to the Bloomberg Billionaire's Index. Jack Ma is 5th - who everyone knows in the West. But hardly anyone knows PDD or Colin Huang. The goal of Temu? Essentially good deals. In a 2018 interview, the founder stated: "The goal is not to be cheap, but to make users feel like they got a good deal." The downside of Temu continues to be how they treat employees and suppliers (Bloomberg reports that employees must work 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., six days a week, plus overtime). Ouch. On the supplier front, global marketplaces have never been given a gold star for treating suppliers well. Also given that Temu is in the EU, it is under regulation by an entity which isn't exactly seen as friendly to big tech companies. I note that many in the industry seem to expect Temu will just go away, it will spend itself out of existence like Wish. I do not share the same view. The difference? Wish raised $1.6B. PDD has $33.3B cash on hand. Obviously Wework proved you can spend any amount of money if you try REAL HARD, but to think a deal-oriented site needs that much capital even with advertising costs is a stretch in my mind. Temu's market is white-label goods. Items you don't care what the name is. Incidentally, 77% of product searches on Amazon are unbranded. Not to say that much of Amazon is white-label goods, but especially in an increasingly unaffordable America (child care, healthcare, college, real estate) the value trend is not going away. Consumers are cheap, and getting cheaper. So if you think that a somewhat trusted Temu isn't at least some threat to Amazon you are kidding yourself. In a world where missing 5% of your growth is a big deal, that's all it would take for Amazon to lose share. Combined with loss of first eCommerce searches from social shopping platforms, all is not completely rosy in the Amazon universe.

In deeptech VC investing, PLENTY has to TICK ✅ for an investments to actually happen. Since I launched Silicon Roundabout Ventures I saw some 2000+ companies pitches. In about 2 years. And I wrote 9 cheques. Under 1% per year. So what has to tick?  ✅  Something in the team's profiles and their pitch clicks with the VC partner -in a Solo GP firm that's me, of course, but ultimately even in larger firms something needs to stand out in the founders to an investor who has the power to push things through (it doesn't always have to be a partner but if it's less than principal your battle is uphill from the start)  ✅  The company is in the right market and geography, at the right stage: not all deeptech VCs are created equal –don't bother pitch me a Series A or US deal, and in larger firms different partners have different expertise for markets, so aim for the one who would "get you" better.  ✅ There is less competition and a clearly visible HUGE market opportunity growth to compensate for the TECHNICAL RISK. If you are asking firms to be bolder on underwriting deeptech technical risk, you are going to have a harder sell if there are also plenty of competitors globally or the market niche doesn't seem obviously large and at least partly validated by clear evidence.  ✅ The available investment amount has to be the right size at the right valuation for ownership (linked to the above but also the firm strategy and fund size, some funds write 15 cheques per fund, some 70+, and this impacts how much they expect to own per company)  ✅ It can't conflict with existing investments or create overexposure: but once an investor or firm digs into a subsector they are more likely to do more deals there (in my case semiconductor, quantum, defence, climate hardware, and physics-driven innovation are currently more likely to resonate with me because of the virtuous circle started by previous investments and their market DD)  ✅ The deal has to be more compelling than the other top companies the firm is evaluating at the moment: now this is something even I underestimated and not many VCs would admit in public. But there is an element of top of the funnel business and luck here. If the firm is busy fundraising or closing several deals, they will have reduced attention span, whereas at other moments in the year, they may be more open to spend more time on new inbound. Like in all sales, make sure you follow up with investors you really think to be worth it of your time. You never know. - - - Deals can fail for a lack of any of the above. But different investors will asses them differently to one another. So always balance learning from feedback with the natural numbers game involved in any VC raise. Groq is certainly addressing a major painpoint that plagues many people. It is not a great UX when the system takes multiple seconds before the users sees a response. A response needs to be provided within 300 ms. Note, that humans may also sometimes have to think for a few seconds before a verbal response is produced. That is ok, because the non-verbal cues clearly indicate to the user that their counterpart is thinking, is confused, or is contemplating. The round-trip time to non-verbal cues is what matters so that the users is not left wondering if their counterpart actually understood or heard what was being said. This is why non-verbal communication is super important and the "Agent" needs to have affordances that can effectively express that immediate feedback. That's our perspective at Embodied and what we do on Moxie.

7 RECOMMENDATIONS FOR HARDWARE STARTUPS It’s hard to understate the difficulty of the v1 launch of a consumer hardware company. I see a ton of new HW startups coming out. Here are some counterintuitive recommendations… 1) Target a small market for v1, not a large market. You need a small number of people to love your product and this will earn you the right to build a v2. You have to understand your v1 will not make you a successful company. Your v1 needs to prove that you deserve to exist in the first place. In the case of WHOOP, we started with pro athletes who were willing to put up with our v1’s short battery life and flaky Bluetooth connections because they so desperately needed Sleep and Recovery data. A broad consumer base would have rejected it. 2) Be great at no more than 1-3 things. If you try to be great at more than that, you will build a hardware that is mediocre at a wide range of things. You won’t think it’s going to be mediocre, but it will be. 3) You want a small launch. Not because you want small sales but because you want to have a steady ramp. It’s much better to do 100k of sales steadily over 12 months than in 2 months with a huge drop off. Keep in mind you need to manage your manufacturing partner and that there’s nothing better or more efficient than steady and predictable. 4) CAC is your enemy. Referrals are gold. The magic of referrals is that they signal high NPS and they help you grow steadily. Again everything that helps you have a steady HW manufacturing plan is good. Building a referral program for v1 launch is a good use of your time. 5) Be excellent at Software. Turns out being good at both Hardware and Software is a hard thing and something that your BIG COMPANY competitor is actually not great at (excluding Apple here). For some reason, there’s such a magnifying glass on the Hardware development, that Software is then overlooked by consumer startups. Don’t make that mistake. You can be great at both. 6) You should spend an unreasonable amount of time and money on ONE aspect of your Hardware. Could be the design or a technical breakthrough. But something needs to be SPECIAL. In our case, we designed a modular battery pack that allowed Whoop to be charged without taking it off your body. This made our development timeline much longer, but it allowed us to achieve something that no other wearable has achieved since: 24/7 health data. 7) Finally, have an unrealistic belief in yourself and your team. You are not supposed to succeed and the odds are stacked against you. Building hardware takes confidence and you’re up against big players who will rip you off. We went so far as to leave a message for our competitors on our circuit board (pictured below). In the case of Amazon and others, the prophecy came true. 👊 Simplicity, stupid. What if startups were given the problem of verifying the cleanliness of toilets to solve? 👉 They would probably develop software: ✅ verifying entry into the room verified by AI-based algorithms, ✅ containing elements of gamification (points, levels for maintaining cleanliness) ✅ using cleaning tokenization, where NFT would be created for later users who confirm the activity, ✅ verification by the manager using digital identity confirmation, ✅ zero hardware! ➕ Plus a scale-up process based on mega budgets. And a funding round of several million. Irrational? Unfortunately, often the solution is created about the ambitions of the team, rather than aiming to do the task in the simplest and cheapest way possible. Simply put - efficient. And sometimes the incremental utility of solutions turns out to be negligible. 💡 And here you can see it perfectly - all it took was a piece of paper and a signature! Unfortunately, it is not sexy. Without an app, a game, a community, a blockchain. And on top of that it is based on HI (human intelligence). Unfortunately, it requires hardware, which for many investors is no go😊. And yet it works! Cheap, simple to implement. I often see similar pitchdecks. Foudners instead of business and customers start with software and huge costs, postponing verification of hypotheses over time, consuming most of the time and resources. That's a shame. Sometimes it would be a nice, old-fashioned business generating cash and slowly building a position in the market or part of it. Q: What will happen with $YAR after TGE? Can YAR be dumped? A: The maximum sum of circulated $YAR on TGE is 1 million tokens. It's highly unlikely that this sum will enter the market. This is possible only if all investors prefer the Cliff+Vesting model over Node #Staking with 65% APY in $YAR. The latter option seems unreasonable. Part of the 1 million tokens will be bought by YAR DAO itself to record these coins in chain pools. When a chain is added, an internal trading pair is created for YAR, like ETH/YAR and MATIC/YAR. This determines the cost of the transaction in the destination #blockchain. At the start, approximately 180 chains will be announced for support, and about 70 more will be added within another month. This totals to 250 chains. Even if we create a pool of 1000YAR in each (the pool will be bigger for popular blockchains and smaller for unpopular ones), 250k coins will practically leave the market forever, and 750k will remain in free circulation. The remaining coins will be bought by dApps that need a free #crosschain (100k YAR - one dApp), validators who do not have enough coins for one more node (50k - one node, staking for two years), and so on. There won't be many free coins left on the market, even though there is liquidity for a total drain that exceeds the circulating supply several times. Therefore, the selling pressure is minimal. Visa tokenization platform helps banks issue fiat-backed tokens. helping to bridge existing fiat currencies with blockchains through the Visa Tokenized Asset Platform (VTAP), a new product designed to help financial institutions issue and manage fiat-backed tokens on blockchain networks. The VTAP solution is available on the Visa Developer Platform for participating financial institution partners, to create and experiment with their own fiat-backed tokens in a VTAP sandbox. Visa has a global network of more than 15,000 financial institutions and helps facilitate seamless transactions of fiat currencies across more than 200 countries and territories.
