Foundations of Gender & Sexuality (Allyship 101)
2.5 Hours Webinar
FOUNDATIONS explores how we are socialized with regards to sexual orientation, gender identity, and expression and provides foundational awareness of basic allyship practices for inclusion, with special regards to the LGBTQ+ community.
This workshop aims to increase the awareness of student, faculty, staff, and community members on topics and issues pertaining to sexual and gender minorities at Cal Poly and in San Luis Obispo County. Through this training, people can become better equipped to support individuals of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions within our current socio-historic-political contexts. Participants have the opportunity to examine their own socialization and beliefs, raise awareness of others in our community, begin the process of critiquing paradigms and systems that are harmful to LGBTQ+ people, and pledge a commitment to enhancing allyship practices for access, equity, and inclusion of sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression through an intersectional lens. This workshop is offered quarterly at Cal Poly.
