The project was founded to raise awareness of the importance of the first five years of a child's life and that experiences in those early years can have a profound long-term influence on adult life.

"There was a general reckoning with the darker sides of the Industrial Revolution, and an increasing awareness that you needed government intervention — progressive taxation, pensions, recognizing unions, anti-monopoly laws."

He said awareness of different players' needs and the number of specialist roles in the games industry had vastly increased, and a number of mainstream game awards now have an accessibility category.

"There is a need for the government to conduct intensive public awareness campaigns."
