The Palisades fire, which has chewed through more than 23,000 acres, burned down to the water in places, destroying trees and riparian canopy right along the edges.

Fireworks and sky lanterns were used, with the latter causing the fire around 3:30 a.m. on Jan. 17 that burned down the home, the lawsuit alleges.

Watts notes that full impact of the losses from the fires to the creative community remains unknown, but several studios he’s personally recorded in burned down.

“If it seems too good to be true, it probably is,” said Todd Smoyer, who received a voucher after his house burned down in Altadena but wasn’t able to use it.

Those protests were overwhelmingly nonviolent, but many voters in rural and suburban areas were led to believe that America's cities were practically burning down.
