Jackie and Shadow, Big Bear’s famous bald eagles, were spotted mating for the first time this season, renewing hopes that the pair will successfully raise an eaglet in the new year.

Much ado has been made over the lopsided mating pool of China, where the recent census showed a surplus of 30 million single men.

The past two mating seasons ended in heartbreak for Jackie and Shadow, Big Bear’s beloved bald eagle couple.

"For instance, the amygdala is responsible for social behaviors like parenting, mating, aggression and the navigation of social-dominance hierarchies," said Braga, an assistant professor of neurology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.

The cassette was inserted on the X-chromosome and reduced the mating success of males, resulting in reduced offspring.
