My name is Víctor. Here are some highlights about my life:

• 1982 - 2007 Caguas, Puerto Rico: was born, attended school, university
• 2007 - 2020 Ann Arbor, Michigan: career, got married, had children, bought a house
• 2020 - Hemmingford, Quebec: international move, bought a hobby farm

Work

I work at Red Hat as a Senior Principal Software Engineer. I help drive the engineering strategy and vision for OpenShift multi-cluster management.

Some of the projects I help with at Red Hat are:

• Red Hat OpenShift on AWS (ROSA)
• Azure Red Hat OpenShift (ARO)
• OpenShift Cluster Manager (OCM)

Most of my time is spent attending meetings, defining new paths forward, writing proof-of-concepts (mostly in Golang), and reviewing my teammates' designs.

Free Software

I'm passionate about Linux, Free Software, Open Source. I enjoy developing and contributing to various projects, especially when they make my life better.

Some of the projects I regularly devote time to:

• MATE Desktop (I'm one of the maintainers)
• Ubuntu MATE (even though I use Fedora these days)
• Various projects under the GNOME umbrella.

I also have plenty of smaller/one-off contributions to many other projects. Check out my GitHub for more stuff.

In addition to contributing, there are other projects that I rely on every day and are dear to me:

• Vim text editor
• Mutt e-mail client
• WeeChat IRC client
• Pidgin instant messenger client
• Liferea RSS reader
• Syncthing continuous file synchronization program
• LineageOS Android-based operating system
• K-9 mobile mail client

Homesteading

My family and I live in the countryside and lead a homesteading lifestyle. We homeschool our children and actively work towards local food self-sufficiency.

• We try to grow what we eat (fruits, vegetables, eggs).
• What we don't [yet] grow, we source from neighboring farms (meat, dairy, extra fruit).
• What we can't source from neighboring farms, we buy in bulk from local sources (dried beans, wheat grain).
• What can't be produced locally, we import (coffee, chocolate).
• We eat fresh produce only when it's in season.
• We preserve food after harvest to last us through winter.

It's a rewarding lifestyle full of satisfying challenges.
