While Apple may have beaten Android when it comes to sales, when it comes to stability the new Android 5.0 Lollipop beats Apple's iOS 8.

According to data from mobile application performance management specialists Crittercism, app crash rates for the Lollipop are 0.2 percentage points lower than for iOS 8.
- Android Lollipop: 2.0% crash rate
- iOS 8: 2.2% crash rate
iOS 8 also continues to show higher app crash rates than iOS 7.
- iOS 8: 2.2% crash rate
- iOS 7: 1.9% crash rate
When it comes to Android, Lollipop is the best of the bunch, showing significantly lower app crash rates than earlier releases.
- Android Lollipop: 2.0% crash rate
- Kit Kat: 2.6% crash rate
- Ice Cream Sandwich: 2.6% crash rate
Apps can crash for a variety of reasons, ranging from operating system issues to problems with the apps or a device specific issue such as low memory.
