This dissertation looks at the strategies for teaching music theory to dyslexic contemporary musi... more This dissertation looks at the strategies for teaching music theory to dyslexic contemporary music students in higher education to help them decode it. Through looking at secondary research, it became clear that the majority of suggested methods for teaching dyslexics were aimed towards primary/secondary education, or not music theory related. In order to assess whether these methods were also appropriate for teaching dyslexics to decode music theory, primary research was carried out in the form of interviews to two professors in the field of dyslexia and music in higher education. Based on the secondary research and interview analyses, the conclusion reached is that these methods are indeed appropriate for teaching dyslexic contemporary music students in higher education to decode music theory. The primary research also provided more higher education and contemporary music specific techniques for teaching dyslexic students to understand music theory.
