I have experience in prehistoric and historic sites investigations from small and large scale cultural resource surveys, to National Register Eligibility Testing of prehistoric and historic sites, and large scale mitigation programs involving multiple site excavation and interpretation. Responsibilities have included design and implementation of all phases of cultural resource investigations from preliminary negotiations, to developing research designs/work plans and cost estimates and conducting field surveys, site excavations and preparing historic properties management plans. I have in depth experience in prehistoric artifact analysis and in terpretation, data base management, and technical report writing. The results of my investigations, which often are expansive and multi-disciplinary in nature, have been published in refereed journals, technical journal articles, monographs, technical reports, and newsletters. My field research/analysis/report writing experience includes survey, testing, and mitigation of sites in the Southeastern U.S. (Alabama, Arkansas, Tennessee, South Carolina, Florida, Kentucky, Mississippi, Louisiana) and the Southern Plains (primarily Texas). I have also conducted numerous Phase I surveys and accomplished Phase II site testing in the Midwest/Plains (Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska) and reported the results. In addition to this experience, I have compiled cultural resource management plans for army ammunition depots in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Kentucky and for the Osage Hydroelectric project at Lake of Ozarks, Missouri. Served as a field supervisor for excavations at the East St. Louis Mound Complex, a large Mississippian urban settlement along the Mississippi River, Illinois. Responsible for supervising and conducting lithic analyses--Mississippian lithics from the East St. Louis Mound Complex. 2010-present. Serve as principal archaeologist at Southern Illinois Historic Preservation, a private historic preservation consulting firm located in Murphysboro, Illinois. November 2003-June 2010. Served as senior archeologist for American Resources Group, Ltd., Carbondale, Illinois. Primary responsibilities involved direction of prehistoric and historic site projects. The projects included primarily field surveys, prehistoric and historic site testing, and mitigation of prehistoric and historic sites. The results were reported in professional technical reports. The projects took place primarily in Illinois, Missouri, Kentucky, Indiana, Nebraska, Kansas, and Oklahoma. An historic properties management plan was prepared for the Osage Hydroelectric Project, Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri. Preparation of research designs, prehistoric contexts, technical proposals and budgets was also conducted. March 2003-October, 2003. Served as principal investigator and senior archeologist for Moore Archeological Consulting, Inc., Houston, Texas. Work accomplished involved primarily flood control and drainage projects as well as road and bridge construction, a residential development, and a sanitary landfill. The work was funded by both county and private interests. Conducted artifact analyses and wrote numerous technical reports of investigations as well as cultural resources assessment reports. Wrote technical proposals and prepared budgets. September 2000-February 2003. Archaeological consultant/project archeologist. Directed a large fiber optic line survey (AT&T) and monitoring for American Resources Group Ltd., across Iowa and western Illinois. Also conducted an in-depth analysis of a large lithic collection from three sites in Illinois (primarily Late Archaic and Middle Woodland Crab Orchard components) and reported the results for American Resources Group. Directed a large Phase I reconnaissance-intensive Phase I survey of the Osage River/Lake of the Ozarks from the Missouri River to Truman Dam in central and western Missouri for American Resources Group, Ltd. Directed several small intensive Phase I surveys for American Resources Group in Iowa, Illinois, and Indiana. Reported the results of all projects in technical monographs. October 1998-August 2000. During this time, a large single component Early Archaic site was excavated for City of Florence, Alabama near the Tennessee River. Also, Phase II testing was conducted at a prehistoric site in northern Mississippi. A large Phase I intensive survey was conducted at Peason Ridge, Fort Polk, Louisiana for the U. S. Army and several small Phase I projects were also conducted. January, 1993-March 1997, Principal Investigator/Senior Archaeologist, Geo-Marine, Inc., Plano, Texas. Wrote proposals, prepared budgets, directed field work, conducted laboratory analyses, and wrote technical reports for numerous federal projects. These included 1) a Phase I reconnaissance and intensive survey of the Blue Grass Army Depot in central Kentucky, 2) Phase I intensive survey of select Army aviation helicopter landing lease tracts in the vicinity of Fort Rucker, southeast Alabama, 3) testing of four shell midden sites in the Trinity Delta, southeast Texas for the Galveston District Corps of Engineers, 4) mitigation of a large shell midden for the Galveston District, 5) Phase I survey of a portion of Cypress Creek north of Houston, Texas, 6) Phase I cemetery relocation project for the Galveston District, and 7) oral history project for the Galveston District. Also during this time, lithic analyses were conducted for sites at Camp Gruber in Oklahoma and the Little Rock Air Force Base in Arkansas. Directed numerous Phase I cultural resource surveys for private coal mining firms and other businesses. Served as Principal Investigator and Co-Principal Investigator for several projects including intensive survey of over 5,000 acres of Sumter National Forest for the U.S. Forest Service, and conducted reconnaissance of large portions (40,000 acres) of the Mobile-Tensaw and Pascagoula River deltas and Yazoo Basin, Alabama and Mississippi for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District. Also served as Principal Investigator for Phase II testing of seven sites in the proposed Tom Bevill Reservoir, Fayette County, Alabama.
