British Walks
David Cotton maintains a list of people past and present who have or are walking the entire coats fo Britain. Some, like Chrstian Nook, all in one go, and some sectional walkers, doing a portion at a time, sometimes over many years.
The first such walker was John Merrill, who completed it in 1978. I didn’t recall the name, but do remember it being reported a the time, I think on Blue Peter. I think about half way round he got March Disease (small stress fractures of the foot bones) and had to take a sort beak for his feet to heal.
As a tiny child I used to look at the globe and imagine walking all the way round (swimming between the Aleutian Islands!), so hearing about this first round Britain walk was wonderful.
Thanks to Ted Richards, himself a complete Wales-England Coast walker, for letting me know about this great resource and inspiration.
