This smart meter allows a bidirectional communication between the household smart meters and the load distribution management system (LDMS). The LDMS deploys an energy management system (EMS) that runs a simple demand response program (DRP) based on time of use (TOU), consisting in peak and off-peak rates. We have used Arduino UNO and GSM to achieve our demands. Our system monitors the consumed electricity units and sends the message to the user according to the tarrif charges. The user has the authority to decide whether he wants to continue the supply or not.
