The techniques used to fix the osteotomy mostly lead to either angulation or loss of correction during the final tightening of the Stainless Steel (SS) wire at the osteotomy site. The records for patients undergoing two modifications in a conventional modified French Osteotomy were analysed. Four wires, two proximal and two distal to the osteotomy site for precision and guided compression over the other additional Kirschner wire (K-wire) at the osteotomy site, were the two modifications in these patients. Aim: To analyse the functional outcome of cubitus varus deformity in children treated with technical modifications of modified French osteotomy. Materials and Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study done at the Department of Orthopaedics, Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India. The study duration was three years (from April 2...

Current recommendations promote joint salvage procedures in allograft or mega prosthetic replacement. Patients undergoing this surgery need massive changes in their lifestyle to cope with their activities of daily living. The psychological and social impact following these procedures has not been extensively studied. Aim: To observe the long term functional results as well as the impact on quality of life in patients undergoing endoprosthetic replacements in GCT around the knee with emphasis on any difference in results among the cases operated for distal femoral and proximal tibial GCT. Materials and Methods: This retrospective study was conducted at Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow from June 2015 to June 2019 with a total sample size of 21 cases. The two groups formed wer...

To evaluate results of the modified Boytchev procedure for recurrent anterior dislocation of the shoulder in 60 patients. METHODS. Medical records of 45 men and 15 women aged 20 to 44 years who underwent the modified Boytchev procedure for recurrent anterior dislocation of the right (n=44) and left (n=16) shoulders were reviewed. The mean number of dislocations was 14. Outcome was evaluated using the Burkhead and Rockwood criteria. RESULTS. The mean follow-up period was 56 months. Outcome was excellent in 32 patients, good in 21, and fair in 7. None had poor outcome. The mean external rotation deficit at 0º and 90º of abduction improved from 14º to 7º (p=0.04) and 18º to 7º (p=0.03), respectively. Two patients had fragmentation of the coracoid process, which was fixed with non-absorbable suture. Two patients had traction injury to the musculocutaneous nerve, which recovered after 6 months. One patient had recurrent dislocation that ruled out the chance of revision surgery. ...

Materials and Methods: Forty patients were treated from emergency and outpatient department, having closed fracture of the distal third fibula in both bone fractured legs. Results: Out of 40 patients, 35 patients underwent union in 3-4 months. Touch-down weight bearing was started on 2 postoperative day. Complications were found in five patients who had delayed union in three and soft-tissue infection at the nail entry point in two patients. Conclusions: Fixation using rush nail in distal third fibular fracture is a safe and effective method of surgery that could be performed in patients with compromised soft-tissue condition and showed sufficient stability after fixation.

Forty-two knees each were operated using midvastus approach and the medial parapatellar approach. Clinical parameters that were evaluated included Knee Society score (KSS); knee pain using visual analogue scale (VAS) on day 1, 1 week, and 1 month; time required to straight leg raise (SLR); patellar tracking; mean extensor lag at 1 week and 1 month; and time of discharge from the hospital. Surgical parameters that were evaluated included tourniquet time, incidence of lateral retinacular release, estimated blood loss, and any complications during the surgery. KSS at 1 week and 1 month postoperatively were significantly higher in the midvastus group as compared with medial parapatellar group; though similar at 3 months, 6 months, an...
