Anadolu University Open Education Faculty (OEF) Preschool Teacher Training Program (PSTTP) is the first and only institution in Turkey that trains preschool teachers via distance education. Within PSTTP practical courses are available as well as the theoretical courses. Practical courses aim to improve the skills of teacher candidates in a school environment. Teacher candidates attend kindergarten classes under the supervision of a teacher. In this context, the guiding skills of teachers gain importance in terms of shaping candidates’ perceptions about teaching profession. In this study, the teachers’ perceptions related to the guiding skills within the practical courses were determined. Also, the perceptions and applications related to guiding skills were compared. A likert scale questionnaire and an open-ended question were used to determine perceptions and applications. 118 questionnaires were taken into consideration and analyses of data were performed by using percentage distribution and QSR Nvivo-8 program.

It is possible to associate the widespread use of social media platforms with the diversity of alternatives that meet individual needs such as entertainment, information, self-expression and interaction. Social media, which has leaked and become a part of our daily lives, is considered as a relatively new technology when compared to traditional media. It is also considered that the widespread use of social media is a result of a decision process like all technology-based applications. It is possible to associate this decision, approval, and expansion process with the diffusion of innovation approach. Decision-making process of innovation is described in five basic stages like knowledge, persuasion, decision, implementation and confirmation. In this study, the features and processes within the scope of diffusion of innovation has been associated with the emergence and spread of social media.

The researches conducted on a worldwide scale suggest that virtual classrooms will become more common within the scope of distance education and the trend in distance education will center on this area. Virtual environments, which depend on Internet as the most important tool to take the lead in the information highway, are recognized as the most recent reflection of new technologies in education. Virtual education and virtual classes as a reflection of virtual reality in the field of education have some special requirements and elements that differ them from the face-to-face education. It is thought that management of distance education and virtual classes require different intellectual and managerial skills, and models from the educational administration in the classical sense. Therefore, virtual property should be taken into consideration within the design and management of virtual educational environments. Research in the field of virtual classrooms and environments explains what they are and why they are important; but answers to some basic questions like how to organize and manage these environments are still weak. The key factor for making virtual classroom practices more common and effective is qualifying the instructors with virtual classroom management skills. On the other hand, one of the most important factors that effects the effectiveness of virtual classes is the opinions of the instructors about the use of these platforms and their believes about whether virtual classes are beneficial or not. This study aims at identifying the opinions of instructors commissioned in the process of virtual classroom management. The research designed in general survey model employed the qualitative and quantitative research techniques. Within the scope of the research, a questionnaire form was developed to identify the opinions of instructors with regard to virtual classroom management departing from the data obtained as a result of the focus group interview, a qualitative research technique. The questionnaire was sent to 480 instructors, and 228 of the questionnaire were returned. As a result of the form check, 215 questionnaire forms at total were evaluated. The data analysis involved the calculation and interpretation of frequency and percentage of each item in the questionnaire form. It was found that the opinions of the instructors about virtual classroom practices are mostly positive. However, the need for technical skills is thought to limit participation in the course. Also it is determined that instructors are unstable about the lack of face-to-face communication elements that can negatively affect the teaching process. In this context, it is recommended that instructors can be informed about especially how to eliminate the lack of technical skills and face-to-face communication elements.

Especially with Web 2.0 revolution internet users found themselves in an interactive environment. People have come from a passive spectator position to active participant and have gained a virtual environment where they can create, share and interference the contents.
In the broadest sense, social media is defined as web sites that are founded on Web 2.0 technologies, also allows social interaction, formation of communities and collaboration (Akar, 2010:17). Web sites or applications that appreciated with active participation and the interaction among users can be defined as social media. A web site or application can be described as social media when it allows user-based content, individual users/members and provide interaction among users.
Compared to traditional media, social media promotes two-way communication among users. Also social media is cost-efficient when compared with the traditional media like newspapers and television in terms of information publishing and access. Also access to social media is open to everyone. Users, who doesn’t satisfied with the content offered by traditional media produce the basis of social media by creating their own content, (Büyükşener, 2009). Usage of platforms including blogs; social networks like Facebook, Myspace and Friendfeed; professional networks like LinkedIn; content sharing communities like Youtube and Flickr; sites like Wikipedia; forums and comments on news sites are becoming widespread day by day and continues to find new fields of application.
The interactive nature of social media can also have some advantages for distance education. Technology-based distance education applications that aim to reach large audience become more challenging and effective when the communication and interaction opportunities increase. When appropriately integrated into the online classroom, social media can offer innovative learning experiences. With the prevalence of various social media tools, faculties can design creative online learning activities. On the other hand, online collaboration becomes much easier when it is facilitated by social media technologies. With creative integration of social media tools in a class, students can participate more and be more engaged in the learning process. One of the most important advantages of social media usage in distance education is helping online learners feel less isolated. With social media technologies advancing, distance education will continuously evolve with the trend.
The diversity of the platforms accepted as social media entails different suggestions and discussions about which the platform can be used for what purpose within the educational process. This study aims to clarify the usage of social media in distance education considering the examples from the field.

Anadolu University Distance Education System PreSchool Teacher Training Program (PSTTP) which closely follow developments in information and communication technology exploit the potential of ePortfolios.
In 2000, PSTTP, which has a strategic role in Turkish Higher Education System, was established with the collaboration between Anadolu University and Minister of Education due the idea that it is not possible to train enough number of qualitative teachers via formal education. Since 2000-2001 academic year, approximately 26.000 teacher candidates registered to PSTTP and 15.000 teacher candidates were graduated.
In ePortfolyo System which is implemented within the practice courses in PSTTP, PreSchool teacher were charged as tutors for guiding to the teacher candidates and academic staff of PSTTP organized an orientation program for these tutors. The opinions of tutors about training teachers via distance education effect the educational process of ePortfolio. In this scope, a questionnaire has prepared by researchers to determined tutors’ opinions and this questionnaire delivered to 210 tutors who participated the orientation program. 145 questionnaire was taken into consideration during the data analyze process. Statistical analyses of data are performed by using frequency and percentage distribution.
According to the datas of this study, it is determined that tutors don’t have negative perceptions about training teachers via distance education, contrarily they declared that distance education should be supported.

This searching causes that the new alternatives are put into practice in both traditional (in class) and distance education and one of these alternative learning method is scenario based learning. The applications for e-scenario based learning are varied by the developments in the information and communication technologies. Adapting stories that are related to the educational activities/goals and putting forward the solutions for educational problems realized more effectively by modern technologies like animation and simulation. So choosing the best method and the reasonable story related to the subject is determinative and important for e-scenario- based learning as the other educational approaches. But to make right decisions about these subjects and make appropriate designs isn’t easy as it seems. To realize the expected results from the educational process it is needed to make right designs; but firstly it is necessary to answer some questions like why, how and when e-scenario-based learning is needed. Also it is necessary to put forward the basic characteristics of e-scenario based learning. By this way, it is possible to clarify the differences between traditional e-learning and e-scenario based learning. After dealing up basic characteristics of e-scenario based learning approach, it will be possible and more appropriate to make comments about the future applications based on the frame of current technological developments and foresights. In this study, it is discussed and dwelled upon the basic characteristics of e- scenario based learning, the conditions it is needed and the special features for e-scenario based learning design. Also it is thought that this study attract attention the advantages of e-scenario based learning within the distance education applications.

"In an evolving world, rapid developments and the widespread use of the Internet provide opportun... more "In an evolving world, rapid developments and the widespread use of the Internet provide opportunities to new educational media, communication, and interaction. The use of new communication technologies in education has affected the synchronous and asynchronous interaction and provided new opportunities concerning the presentation of educational materials to the students. One of these new opportunities is the Internet supported web based courses. Webs based courses increase students’ motivation and provide active participation to the learning process. But for effective use of the web-based courses, the design, production and broadcast of the course content are essential. Primarily, for a designed web based course, a detailed study must be made as regards educational science, theories of learning, pedagogy, technology, characteristics of the students, interface design, evaluation, management, support by resources, ethics and the institutional properties of the education institution (Khan, 2005). Moreover, people that take part in the design process of the materials should work cooperatively for successful and well-designed materials.
In Turkey, Anadolu University (AU) enables self-paced and interactive education for the students by the Internet supported web based courses. This study aims to determine the opinions of the scriptwriters on the design process of web-based courses in AU Open Education Faculty. It is believed that the findings of this study will contribute to improve the design process of web-based courses that come into prominence day by day. Opinions of scriptwriters were asked by a questionnaire concerning the design process of web-based courses in AU Open Education Faculty.

Therefore, improving the quality of pre-school education that plays such an important role in human’s life, organizing it in a most effective way and ensuring that it becomes widespread is of upmost significance. Although functional missions of pre-school education makes the teacher training for pre-school functional and important, it is not possible to say that pre-school education opportunities are enough in Turkey. Also the quality and quantity level of teacher training is not as high as desired. An alternative solution to train required amount of teacher in a certain time without compromising the quality is training teachers via open and distance learning. From 2000-2001 academic year, both formal and distance education methods have been utilized in teacher training in Turkey.
The Pre-school Education Program (PSEP) administered together by the Ministry of National Education and Anadolu University Open Education Faculty is a complete open education program equivalent to the formal pre-school education programs of education faculties in Turkey. In this respect, the Anadolu University Open Education Faculty PSEP is the first and unrivaled initiative that provides education for pre-school teacher candidates with a distance education approach.
The most important problem in an open education program is to put the theoretical knowledge simultaneously into practice. Consequently, it is inevitable that practicum courses are involved to education programs as complementary elements to theoretical lessons. It is not possible for a teacher candidate to be a teacher without practicing activities. Within the scope of this approach, 3rd and 4th classes are provided with practicum courses in the Open Education Faculty PSEP.
In this study, it is aimed to determine the students’ options related to the practical courses in Anadolu University Open Education Faculty PSEP. This descriptive study is aimed at determining the current situation. A total number of 8.881 students, consisting of 5.244 3rd class and 3.637 4th class students attending the practical classes of the Open Education Faculty PSEP in the academic year of 2004-2005 form the essence of this study. The sample of the study included 10% of the students. A questionnaire form, which is prepared by the researchers, is used as a data collection means. And “t” and “f” tests are used for analyzing the data.

The Internet also enables synchronous and non-synchronous interaction between course material, students and lecturers. This led to web-based courses becoming widespread and popular in the education system especially in distance learning education.
This report sets out to explain the design, delivery and application processes of the multilingual web-based “TV Advertising Course”. This report also tries to identify the problems and suggests how to take these courses forward.
One of the most important components of web-based instruction is the design and production of the course contents. The process of Web-based course design includes:
1. Determining the course,
2. Choosing the design group,
3. Deciding on the objectives of the course,
4. Defining the target audience,
5. Selecting the materials to be used,
6. Designing virtual contents,
7. Planning the applications,
8. Preparing types of publication or broadcasting, and
9. Control and distribution.
In this study we introduce design and application processes of the “Web-based TV Advertising Course” which are prepared within the scope of the ODISEAME (Open Distance Inter-University Synergies Between Europe, Africa and Middle East) project.
With reference to the problematic situations in the TV Advertising Course, it is possible to propose some recommendations for the subsequent applications of web-based TV advertising course or web-based courses in general.
Marketing the courses, preconditions for participation, privileges for participants, detailed individual information about the participants, basic course materials, virtual and auditory material usage, synchronous communication and interaction and sharing experiences are some of the issues that can be improved. These courses can also be used as a supportive platform for the face-to-face traditional courses at the universities.

It is accepted that every medium used in education has different communication and interactivity potential. Hence it is important to choose the most efficient and effective medium to offer better educational opportunities. Nowadays different mediums can be intermingled according to program goals. In fact, the usages of multimedia materials have become widespread. However in the background of the effective use of these materials, we can easily argue that the design process and well-prepared educational scripts are very crucial.
When the usage of multimedia materials for distance education in Turkey is examined, it can be seen that one the most lasting and widespread applications are put into practice at Anadolu University (AU) Open Education Faculty. As such, AU is specialized in designing multimedia materials. The writers and editors of related course books, being experts in the field, are involved in the script writing process in Open Education Faculty. In this study, which aims to explore the script writing process for multimedia materials in AU Open Education Faculty, can help to analyze the above- mentioned process in detail. In this way, it would be possible to determine the shortcomings and hopefully, improve the script writing process of multimedia materials which would contribute to its refinements."

Through this perspective, online learning environments have an important potential, owing to their nature to reach international audiences. Considering the number and diversity of students in e-Learning environments, policies balancing different expectations and studying how the participants perceive ethics in online learning environments are important. During online courses, like in the face-to-face classes; students have to show respect to their instructors and course mates. Taking ethical principles into consideration in e-Learning leads to (1) respect and tolerance among participants, (2) civil relations and interaction based on pre-determined rules.
Starting with this argument, the purpose of this study is to analyze the opinions of Anadolu University s Distance English Language Teachers Training (DELTT) Program instructors and 3rd - 4th year students that take online courses. In line with the purpose of the study, (1) learner diversity (2) behavioral and legal regulations are parameters chosen for surveying the opinions of instructors and learners about ethical issues in the online learning environment they participate. Following the statistical analysis on survey results, the correlation between the opinions of the students and the instructors, as regards ethics in online learning environments are discussed. "

So school principals are accepted as one of the most important and effective primary elements in fulfilling the responsibilities entrusted to schools. Principals play an important role in motivating teachers, students and parents; in merging them around organizational goals and most importantly in improving the teaching-learning process. While ensuring that motivation and coordination within the school, skills of principals related to managing corporate communication process are accepted as a decisive factor.
