My research agenda focuses on the intersection of information literacy and research method pedagogy in theological education. The facet of information literacy that most intrigues me is how to "evaluate information," particularly in a religiously pluralistic context. To this end, I am exploring the philosophy of information, social epistemology, the epistemology of testimony and the epistemology of disagreement as one inquiry

It combines the resources of the James White Library’s Adventist Heritage Center and the Ellen G. White Estate Branch Office to provide the most extensive collection of Adventist related resources in the world, both physically and digitally. An introduction to the background, collections, and activities of CAR is presented. Of particular interest are the digitization projects.

A better understanding of theological inquiry as a spiritual discipline and the community of inquiry in which knowledge is communicated and formed could provide a context in which that disconnect may be addressed. Two approaches to teaching academic writing and research in theological education have been discussed. A comparison demonstrates that, for Vyhmeister, truth is to be found outside and above us-it is a process of discovery, while Hamilton's approach focuses on the spiritual formation of the writer and can be understood as reflecting a process of spiritual growth. A third approach, which I develop in this article, views academic writing and theological writing as a ministry, in which the writer is served by and, in turn, serves the community of faith for the purpose of bui...

In applying this ability to Seminary education, specifically to student academic writing, I suggest that “information” in theological inquiry is primarily an expression of “testimony,” defined as information gained from statements and actions of others rather than from perception, memory or inductive inference. Thus recent discussions of the epistemology of testimony in regards to belief formation are pertinent where they contribute to understanding the dynamics of information exchange during the pedagogical event. In the typical process of researching a term paper, it is assumed that the student author has examined the testimony of reliable sources, and then after analysis and synthesis, shares her own interpretive testimony afresh. A typical course on World Religions provides the context for the discussion because mo...
