These plants are rich in bioactive mixes like alkaloids, sterols, saponins, flavonoids, unpredictable oils and so on and are being used since old times. Folk or conventional medicine systems are used and preferred all over the world depending on choice, religious conviction, superstitions, social elements like socio-economic reasons and family-based therapeutic systems since time immemorial. They make use of a number of terrestrial, aquatic and semiaquatic plants and plant parts or their extracts for treatments of various disorders and diseases. Aquatic and semiaquatic plants are used for a number of purposes including their ornamental uses, biomonitoring and phytoremediation of water ecosystems and as medicinal plants. More than 5000–8000 plants are used as herbal medicine all over the world as synergic, supportive or preventive medicine by providing raw material for healing and treatments. Although people all over the world are interested to know about the role of aquatic plants in herbal medicinal systems, rare studies are found on the subject. This study compiles medicinal value of medicinal aquatic plants found or cultivated all over the world with high medicinal value and pharmacological importance.

Researchers from divergent fields including plant sciences are developing strategies and technologies to restrict the problem of food security. Plant stresses such as drought and salinity can be termed as key players in the alleviation of overall crop yield around the world. Both the stresses hit the nutrient uptake ability of the plant leaving it venerable to environmental conditions. Nano fertilizers are emerging at a new solution for handling the major plant problems like salinity and drought. The application of nanoparticles has advantages such as enhanced surface area and enhanced reactivity. The safe, targeted and slow delivery of plant nutrients can be carried-out by using bio-based nanoparticle carriers. A large variety of biopolymers have been tested for this purpose such as chitosan, cellulose, alginate and chitin. In the current book chapter, we provide an overview of the basic concepts of Nano fertilizers and its role in alleviation of salinity and drought stress. Also, the control release of these Nano fertilizers through different matrices have been discussed in detail with recent studies.

Owing to these properties, chitosan alone or chitosan-based composite film production is attaining huge attention in terms of applications from researchers and industrialists coming from divergent fields. To enhance the biological (mainly antimicrobial and antioxidant) and physiological (mainly mechanical, thermal and barrier) attributes of the chitosan-based films, a vast medley of plant extracts and supporting polymers has been blended into chitosan films. Considering the up to date literature reports based on chitosan film production and applications, it can be stated that still, the research ratio is low in this field. Chitosan blend/composite films with specific properties (superhydrophobicity, excellent mechanical strength, acceptable barrier properties) can be produced only for specific applications in food technology. In the current review, we tried to summarize the a...
