The forest structure is changing rapidly and many species are threatened or become extinct. These activities have also shown impact on regeneration of species. Thus, there is a need of global and regional level strategies on conservation of rare and threatened plant species up to species and ecosystem levels to make them locally abundant and to enhance their role in ecosystem functioning. Forest mapping and modeling with standard parameters can be involved in forest inventory assessment and remote sensing and specially designed computer software can be applied in forest conservation and regeneration programmes. Moreover, the forest tree conservation schemes like domestication of species, forest certification system, REDD can be a milestone in preservation of global wilderness.

The use of artificial sweetener as a sugar supplement is a common practices, but causes side effects especially on weight gain and heart related problems. The use of natural sweetener obtained from Stevia rebaudiana leaves has been practiced since 18th century and has gained more popularity in last two decades. The natural sugar supplement is of low calorie hence safe to be consumed. The chemical steviol glycosides mainly present in form of stevioside and rebaudioside in the leaves makes it commercialy significant as a natural sugar substitute. Besides it also contain nutrients, vitamins, fiber, volatile oil and thus thirty times sweeter than white sugar. The leaves also possess antimicrobial, antifungal, antidiabetic, anticariogenic, antioxidant, hypotensive, anti-inflammatory, antihypertensive and antitumor activities. Various models have been designed to describe the molecular dynamics of water molecule and its chemistry. The observational outcomes that helps in understanding molecular structure and thermodynamics of water molecules is reviewed. Further, the differences in H-O-H length and angle for all the three phases of water viz., ice, liquid and vapor and role of vibrational state of the water molecule are also discussed. The study concludes that the use of computer simulations which is an integration of equations or algorithms and system model, have emerged technically more viable and proves best in understanding the molecular mystery and dynamic characteristics of water molecule.

The abiotic stresses cause morphological, physiological, and biochemical modifications and alters metabolic activities in plants. Although plants exhibit a general defense externally in form of cuticle and internal defense in form of plant growth regulators, signaling molecules like gasotransmitters, volatile organic compounds, reactive oxygen species scavengers, polyamines, molecular chaperones, phytochromes, and compatible solutes against adverse situations. However, the collaborative arrival of these conditions left no chances of survival and recovery in plants. This review is an attempt to address the responses, defense mechanisms, and plant compounds used to combat abiotic stresses. The effective scientific techniques like calcium signal systems, functional genomics technologies, molecular markers assisted plant breeding, should be given more emphasis to develop stress tolerance in plants.

Re-establishment of land productivity, or "land degradation neutrality," to support services and the functioning of ecosystems as well as to ensure food security has become an important target for sustainable development. India being the second most populous and mega-diverse country in the world, land degradation is definitely a major problem. Viewing India on the basis of agro-climatic zones, every state with a different geographical and forest pattern and a different agricultural model has exploited the land and forest cover, converting it into degraded, barren, or fragmented land. The agro-climatic zones of the Indian Himalayas, classified as western and eastern Himalaya, present a different picture of ecological functioning and climatology. The majority of the region is occupied by mountain ranges with glaciers, deep valleys, gorges, and high peaks, along with the traditional human settlements. The continuous developmental activities, unplanned agriculture practices, migration to the plains, and overexploitation of natural resources have resulted in a high rate of land degradation in the region. Under these circumstances, it has become essential to restore the paradise of this vast ecosystem by adopting management practices to ensure livelihood, food security, and a healthy environmental system. Climate-smart agriculture with multifaceted approaches has demonstrated greater potential for mitigating the crisis and halting the ecological deterioration of the Indian Himalayan ecosystem. This review focuses on land degradation in India, with special emphasis on Indian Himalayan regions, and land restoration through the adoption of suitable agroforestry practices for sustainable land use and management.
