In the 1926 election, for the first time, a representative of the Magyar Party of Brassó (Braşov) won a seat in the Romanian Parliament, but only for short time. Béla Szele was the general editor of the daily newspaper Brassói Lapok.After becoming member of the Parliament he was accused of writing articles attacking Romanians and the Royal House in 1916, but the accusations proved to be unfounded. Nevertheless his mandate was annulled. In the 1927 election none of the Magyar Party’s representatives from Brassó county obtained a seat either in the Senate or in the Assembly of Deputies. In the 1928 election Béni Szabó, representative of the Magyar Party from Brassó, became member of the Parliament. He was the only Hungarian member from Brassó who fulfi lled his mandate and has been elected three more times in the interwar period, before the royal dictatorship was installed in 1938. Béni Szabó was the representative of small enterprises and craftsmen, being the only member in the interwar period, who fought for the rights of Hungarian, as well as Romanian, Jewish and Saxon small entrepreneurs and craftsmen.
