We consider the model of two coupled oscillators with Kerr nonlinearities in the rotating-wave approximation. We demonstrate that for a certain set of parameters of the model, the multi-photon transitions occur between many pairs of the oscillator states simultaneously. Also, the position of the multi-photon resonances does not depend on the coupling strength between two oscillators. We prove rigorously that this is a consequence of a certain symmetry of the perturbation theory series for the model. In addition, we analyse the model in the quasi-classical limit by considering the dynamics of the pseudo-angular momentum. We identify the multi-photon transitions with the tunnelling transitions between the degenerate classical trajectories on the Bloch sphere.

We considered the multiphoton resonance in the periodically driven quantum oscillator with Kerr nonlinearity in the presence of weak high-order nonlinearities. Multiphoton resonance leads to the emergence of peaks and dips in the dependence of the stationary occupations of the stable states on detuning. We demonstrated that due to high-order nonlinearities, these peaks and dips acquire additional fine structure and split into several closely spaced ones. Quasiclassically, multiphoton resonance is treated as tunneling between the regions of the oscillator phase portrait, and the fine structure of the multiphoton resonance is a consequence of a special quasienergy dependence of the tunneling rate between different regions of the classical phase portrait. For different values of damping and high-order nonlinearity coefficients, we identified the domain of quasienergies where tunneling strongly influences the system kinetics. The corresponding tunneling term in the Fokker-Planck equation in quasienergy space was derived directly from the quantum master equation.

Using the resonant-state expansion for leaky optical modes of a planar Bragg microcavity, we investigate the influence of disorder on its fundamental cavity mode. We model the disorder by randomly varying the thickness of the Bragg-pair slabs (composing the mirrors) and the cavity, and calculate the resonant energy and linewidth of each disordered microcavity exactly, comparing the results with the resonant-state expansion for a large basis set and within its first and second orders of perturbation theory. We show that random shifts of interfaces cause a growth of the inhomogeneous broadening of the fundamental mode that is proportional to the magnitude of disorder. Simultaneously, the quality factor of the microcavity decreases inversely proportional to the square of the magnitude of disorder. We also find that first-order perturbation theory works very accurately up to a reasonably large disorder magnitude, especially for calculating the resonance energy, which allows us to derive qualitatively the scaling of the microcavity properties with disorder strength.

First order coherence measurements of a polariton condensate, reveal a regime where the condensate pseudo-spin precesses persistently within the driving optical pulse. Within a single 20 $μ$s optical pulse the condensate pseudo-spin performs over $10^5$ precessions with striking frequency stability. The condensate maintains its phase coherence even after a complete precession of the spin vector, making the observed state by a definition a spin coherent state. The emergence of the precession is traced to the polariton interactions that give rise to a self-induced out-of-plane magnetic field that in turn drives the spin dynamics. We find that the Larmor oscillation frequency scales with the condensate density, enabling external tuning of this effect by optical means. The stability of the system allows for the realization of integrated optical magnetometry devices with the use of materials with enhanced exciton $g$-factor and can facilitate spin squeezing effects and active coherent control on the Bloch sphere in polariton condensates.

Due to the mirror symmetry breaking in the chiral metamembrane, the radiation power flux of the clockwise and counterclockwise spinning dipoles to the opposite sides of the slab becomes different. We show that spinning dipoles in the specially designed chiral D$_4$-symmetrical bi-metasurface membrane can emit light either upwards or downwards depending on their rotation direction. We attribute this phenomenon to the Fano-resonance effect which is a result of the guided modes coupling with the far field. We show the advantage of D$_4$-symmetrical structures for the achievement of 100\% routing efficiency. This phenomenon can find applications in spintronics for spin-selective inter-chip coupling or as a measurement tool of spin polarization in memory cells.

We present an analytical and numerical study of the fluorescence spectra of a bistable driven system by means of Keldysh diagram technique in pseudo--particle representation. The spectra exhibit smooth transition between ultra-quantum and the quasiclassical limits and indicate the threshold value of the external field when changing of the most probable stable state occurs. The analysis of the fluorescence spectra also allows to determine the most probable stable state of the system. It was also shown that at integer and half-integer detuning-nonlinearity ratio multiphoton resonance leads to abrupt changes in fluorescence spectra. It was also revealed that the fluorescence spectra are symmetric in the limit of zero environment temperature. The predicted features of the spectra could be observed in experiments with ultra-high quality resonators in either microwave or optical domain.

The non-equilibrium statistics and kinetics of a simple bistable system (resonantly driven nonlinear oscillator coupled to reservoir) have been investigated by means of master equation for the density matrix and quasiclassical Fokker-Planck equation in quasienergy space. We found out that the system's statistical and kinetic properties drastically change when the quasienergy states become nearly degenerate and the occupation of the most excited state is strongly enhanced. It has been revealed that in nearly degenerate case a new critical quasienergy parameter emerges. Below the critical quasienergy value the eigenstates are superpositions of the quasiclassical states from different phase space regions, while above this value the eigenstates correspond to only one particular region of the phase space. We have also generalized Keldysh theory for ionization of atoms in the electromagnetic field for bistable systems. It has been demonstrated that Keldysh parameter in bistability region is large when pumping intensity is smaller than the critical value. It has been shown by direct calculations that multi-photon transition amplitude coincides with the tunneling amplitude. So, multi-photon transitions and tunneling between the regions of the phase space are just the same effects. We also demonstrated that for bistable systems the Keldysh parameter logarithmically depends on the external field amplitude.

Bistability of nonlinear resonantly driven oscillator in the presence of external noise is analyzed by means of classical Fokker-Planck equation in quasienergy space with account for tunneling effects and by quantum master equation in quasienergy states representation. Two time scales responsible for different stages of bistable system relaxation have been obtained. We found out that the slow relaxation rate caused by fluctuation--induced transitions between different stable states can be enhanced by several orders due to tunneling effects. It was also revealed that tunneling between nearly degenerate quasienergy states and resonant multiphoton transitions between the genuine eigenstates of the nonlinear oscillator are just the similar effects. It was demonstrated that the quasienergy states in the bistability region corresponding to higher amplitude are squeezed. The degree of squeezing is determined by the ratio between nonlinearity and detuning, so the uncertainty of one quadrature can be considerably smaller than the quantum limit. It was found out that tunneling effects can enhance the generation of output oscillator squeezed states. It is shown that 1D Fokker--Planck equation is a quasiclassical limit of a quantum master equation.

Colloidal CdSe nanoplatelets with thicknesses of 3, 4 and 5 monolayers are chosen for experimental demonstrations. The bright-dark splitting of excitons varies from 3.2 to 6.0 meV and is inversely proportional to the nanoplatelet thickness. Good agreement between experimental and theoretically calculated size dependence of the bright-dark exciton slitting is achieved. The recombination rates of the bright and dark excitons and the bright to dark relaxation rate are measured by time-resolved techniques.

Dipolariton is a voltage controlled mixture of direct and indirect excitons in asymmetric double quantum wells coupled by resonant carrier tunneling, and a microcavity photon. We calculate the voltage dependence of the spin-singlet and spin-triplet interaction parameters $α_{1}$ and $α_{2}$. Both parameters can reach values one order of magnitude larger than that of exciton-polaritons thanks to the strong interaction between indirect excitons. We show that the variation of the indirect exciton fraction of the dipolaritons induces a changes of sign of $α_{2}$ increasing voltage: the interaction passes from attractive to repulsive. For large enough voltage $α_{2}$ becomes larger than $α_{1}$ which in principle can lead to the formation of a circularly polarised dipolariton condensate. We propose an application of the $α_{2}$ dependence to a voltage-controlled dipolaritonic optical parametric oscillator. The change of sign of $α_{2}$ allows an on-site control of the linear polarization degree of the optical signal and its on-demand inversion.

Weak pair interactions in this boson system make possible fast and massive spin flips occurring at critical amplitudes due to the interplay between amplitude dependent shifts of eigenstates and the Zeeman splitting. The polarization dependence of nonequilibrium transitions in a multistable cavity-polariton system is studied under a nanosecond long resonant optical excitation at the normal and magic angle incidences with various polarizations of the pump beam. The temporal correlations between the frequency, intensity, and optical polarization of the intra-cavity field, which all undergo sharp threshold-like changes due to the spin dependent interaction of cavity polaritons, are visualized. The observed dynamics cannot be reproduced within the conventional semi-classical model based on the Gross-Pitaevskii equations. To explain the observed phenomena, it is necessary to take into account the unpolarized exciton reservoir which brings on additional blueshift of bright excitons, equal in the $σ^+$ and $σ^-$ polarization components. This model explains the effect of polarization instability under both pulsed and continuous wave resonant excitation conditions, consistently with the spin ring pattern formation that has recently been observed under Gaussian shaped excitation.

Numerous lines of bound excitons dissect the pulse and induce slowing of light around them, to the extend dependent on their nature. Exciton-polariton resonances determine the overall pulse delay and attenuation. The delay time of the higher-energy edge of a strongly curved light stripe approaches 1.6 ns at 3.374 eV with a 0.3 mm propagation length. Modelling the data of cw and time-of-flight spectroscopies has enabled us to determine the excitonic parameters, inherent for bulk ZnO. We report on terahertz (THz) radiation under electrical pumping from a degenerate semiconductor possessing an electron accumulation layer. In InN, the random grating formed by topographical defects provides high-efficiency coupling of surface plasmon polaritons supported by the accumulation layer to the THz emission. The principal emission band occupies the 2-6 THz spectral range. We establish a link between the shape of emission spectra and the structural factor of the random grating and show that the change of slope of power dependencies is characteristic for temperature-dependent plasmonic mechanisms. The super-linear rise of a THz emission intensity on applied electric power provides advantage of such materials in emission yield.

The transmission of a pump laser resonant with the lower polariton branch of a semiconductor microcavity is shown to be highly dependent on the degree of circular polarization of the pump. Spin dependent anisotropy of polariton-polariton interactions allows the internal polarization to be controlled by varying the pump power. The formation of spatial patterns, spin rings with high degree of circular polarization, arising as a result of polarization bistability, is observed. A phenomenological model based on spin dependent Gross-Pitaevskii equations provides a good description of the experimental results. Inclusion of interactions with the incoherent exciton reservoir, which provides spin-independent blueshifts of the polariton modes, is found to be essential.

We investigate theoretically the optical properties of Nano-Wires (NWs) with cross sections having either discrete or cylindrical symmetry. The material forming the wire is birefringent, showing a different dielectric response in the plane and along the axis of the wire, which is typically the case for wires made of wurtzite materials, such as ZnO or GaN. We look for solutions of Maxwell`s equations having the proper symmetry. The dispersions and the linewidths versus angle of incident light for the modes having high momentum in the cross-section plane, so called whispering gallery modes, are calculated. We put a special emphasis on the case of hexagonal cross sections. The energy positions of the modes for a set of azimuthal quantum numbers are shown. We demonstrate the dependence of the energy splitting between TE and TM modes versus birefringence. The polarization conversion from TE to TM with increase of the axial wave vectoris discussed for both cylindrical and discrete symmetry.

Phonon damping is the main source of pure dephasing in the solid state, limiting many fundamental quantum effects to low temperature observations. Here we show how excitons in semiconductors can be totally decoupled from the phonon bath, even at room temperature, thanks to their strong interaction with photons. To do so, we investigated ZnO microwires, a new semiconductor nanostructure made of large band-gap material where the light can be trapped and guided into whispering gallery modes. In this system, the very large coupling regime between exciton and photon results in unusual exciton-polariton of one-dimensional character and Rabi splitting as large as 300meV. We find that polariton modes of excitonic fraction up to 75% exhibit no thermal broadening up to room temperature. We show that this remarkable behavior is due to the very large Rabi splitting as compared to the LO phonon energy.

We demonstrate for the first time the strong temporal hysteresis effects in the kinetics of the pumped and scattered polariton populations in a planar semiconductor microcavity under a nano-second-long pulsed resonant (by frequency and angle) excitation above the lower polariton branch. The hysteresis effects are explained in the model of multi-mode scattering when the bistability of the nonlinear pumped polariton is accompanied by the explosive growth of the scattered polaritons population. Subsequent self-organization process in the nonlinear polariton system results in a new -- dynamically self-organized -- type of optical parametric oscillator.

This phenomenon is quantitatively explained in terms of optical dispersion in a medium where resonant light scattering by the BX resonance takes place in addition to the polariton propagation.

We show that the reflectivity is not changed upon the 180deg-rotation of the sample around the normal axis, even in PCS with asymmetrical unit cell. Whereas the transmissivity becomes asymmetrical if the diffraction or absorption are present. The PCS reflectivity peaks to unity near the quasiguided mode resonance for normal light incidence in the absence of diffraction, depolarisation, and absorptive losses. For the oblique incidence the full reflectivity is reached only in symmetrical PCS.

We demonstrate experimentally an unusual behavior of the parametric polariton scattering in semiconductor microcavity under a strong cw resonant excitation. The maximum of the scattered signal above the threshold of stimulated parametric scattering does not shift along the microcavity lower polariton branch with the change of pump detuning or angle of incidence but is stuck around the normal direction. We show theoretically that such a behavior can be modelled numerically by a system of Maxwell and nonlinear Schroedinger equations for cavity polaritons and explained via the competition between the bistability of a driven nonlinear MC polariton and the instabilities of parametric polariton-polariton scattering.

Excitons and charged excitons (trions) are investigated in ZnSe-based quantum well structures with (Zn,Be,Mg)Se and (Zn,Mg)(S,Se) barriers by means of magneto-optical spectroscopy. Binding energies of negatively () and positively (X+) charged excitons are measured as functions of quantum well width, free carrier density and in external magnetic fields up to 47 T. The binding energy of shows a strong increase from 1.4 to 8.9 meV with decreasing quantum well width from 190 to 29 A. The binding energies of X+ are about 25% smaller than the binding energy in the same structures. The magnetic field behavior of and X+ binding energies differ qualitatively. With growing magnetic field strength, increases its binding energy by 35-150%, while for X+ it decreases by 25%. Zeeman spin splittings and oscillator strengths of excitons and trions are measured and discussed.
