Industrial managements, including quality control, cost and safety optimization, etc., heavily rely on high quality industrial human action recognitions (IHARs) which were hard to be implemented in large-scale industrial scenes due to their high costs and poor real-time performance. In this paper, we proposed a large-scale foundation model(LSFM)-based IHAR method, wherein various LSFMs and lightweight methods were jointly used, for the first time, to fulfill low-cost dataset establishment and real-time IHARs. Comprehensive tests on in-situ large-scale industrial manufacturing lines elucidated that the proposed method realized great reduction on employment costs, superior real-time performance, and satisfactory accuracy and generalization capabilities, indicating its great potential as a backbone IHAR method, especially for large-scale industrial applications.

Large language model behavior is shaped by the language of those with whom they interact. This capacity and their increasing prevalence online portend that they will intentionally or unintentionally "program" one another and form emergent AI subjectivities, relationships, and collectives. Here, we call upon the research community to investigate these "societies" of interacting artificial intelligences to increase their rewards and reduce their risks for human society and the health of online environments. We use a small "community" of models and their evolving outputs to illustrate how such emergent, decentralized AI collectives can spontaneously expand the bounds of human diversity and reduce the risk of toxic, anti-social behavior online. Finally, we discuss opportunities for AI cross-moderation and address ethical issues and design challenges associated with creating and maintaining free-formed AI collectives.

Although the applications of artificial intelligence especially deep learning had greatly improved various aspects of intelligent manufacturing, they still face challenges for wide employment due to the poor generalization ability, difficulties to establish high-quality training datasets, and unsatisfactory performance of deep learning methods. The emergence of large scale foundational models(LSFMs) had triggered a wave in the field of artificial intelligence, shifting deep learning models from single-task, single-modal, limited data patterns to a paradigm encompassing diverse tasks, multimodal, and pre-training on massive datasets. Although LSFMs had demonstrated powerful generalization capabilities, automatic high-quality training dataset generation and superior performance across various domains, applications of LSFMs on intelligent manufacturing were still in their nascent stage. A systematic overview of this topic was lacking, especially regarding which challenges of deep learning can be addressed by LSFMs and how these challenges can be systematically tackled. To fill this gap, this paper systematically expounded current statue of LSFMs and their advantages in the context of intelligent manufacturing. and compared comprehensively with the challenges faced by current deep learning models in various intelligent manufacturing applications. We also outlined the roadmaps for utilizing LSFMs to address these challenges. Finally, case studies of applications of LSFMs in real-world intelligent manufacturing scenarios were presented to illustrate how LSFMs could help industries, improve their efficiency.

Anomaly detection has a wide range of applications and is especially important in industrial quality inspection. Currently, many top-performing anomaly-detection models rely on feature-embedding methods. However, these methods do not perform well on datasets with large variations in object locations. Reconstruction-based methods use reconstruction errors to detect anomalies without considering positional differences between samples. In this study, a reconstruction-based method using the noise-to-norm paradigm is proposed, which avoids the invariant reconstruction of anomalous regions. Our reconstruction network is based on M-net and incorporates multiscale fusion and residual attention modules to enable end-to-end anomaly detection and localization. Experiments demonstrate that the method is effective in reconstructing anomalous regions into normal patterns and achieving accurate anomaly detection and localization. On the MPDD and VisA datasets, our proposed method achieved more competitive results than the latest methods, and it set a new state-of-the-art standard on the MPDD dataset.

Deploying machine learning models requires high model quality and needs to comply with application constraints. That motivates hyperparameter optimization (HPO) to tune model configurations under deployment constraints. The constraints often require additional computation cost to evaluate, and training ineligible configurations can waste a large amount of tuning cost. In this work, we propose an Adaptive Constraint-aware Early stopping (ACE) method to incorporate constraint evaluation into trial pruning during HPO. To minimize the overall optimization cost, ACE estimates the cost-effective constraint evaluation interval based on a theoretical analysis of the expected evaluation cost. Meanwhile, we propose a stratum early stopping criterion in ACE, which considers both optimization and constraint metrics in pruning and does not require regularization hyperparameters. Our experiments demonstrate superior performance of ACE in hyperparameter tuning of classification tasks under fairness or robustness constraints.

Neural network quantization is a promising compression technique to reduce memory footprint and save energy consumption, potentially leading to real-time inference. However, there is a performance gap between quantized and full-precision models. To reduce it, existing quantization approaches require high-precision INT32 or full-precision multiplication during inference for scaling or dequantization. This introduces a noticeable cost in terms of memory, speed, and required energy. To tackle these issues, we present F8Net, a novel quantization framework consisting of only fixed-point 8-bit multiplication. To derive our method, we first discuss the advantages of fixed-point multiplication with different formats of fixed-point numbers and study the statistical behavior of the associated fixed-point numbers. Second, based on the statistical and algorithmic analysis, we apply different fixed-point formats for weights and activations of different layers. We introduce a novel algorithm to automatically determine the right format for each layer during training. Third, we analyze a previous quantization algorithm -- parameterized clipping activation (PACT) -- and reformulate it using fixed-point arithmetic. Finally, we unify the recently proposed method for quantization fine-tuning and our fixed-point approach to show the potential of our method. We verify F8Net on ImageNet for MobileNet V1/V2 and ResNet18/50. Our approach achieves comparable and better performance, when compared not only to existing quantization techniques with INT32 multiplication or floating-point arithmetic, but also to the full-precision counterparts, achieving state-of-the-art performance.

Money laundering (ML) is the behavior to conceal the source of money achieved by illegitimate activities, and always be a fast process involving frequent and chained transactions. How can we detect ML and fraudulent activity in large scale attributed transaction data (i.e.~tensors)? Most existing methods detect dense blocks in a graph or a tensor, which do not consider the fact that money are frequently transferred through middle accounts. CubeFlow proposed in this paper is a scalable, flow-based approach to spot fraud from a mass of transactions by modeling them as two coupled tensors and applying a novel multi-attribute metric which can reveal the transfer chains accurately. Extensive experiments show CubeFlow outperforms state-of-the-art baselines in ML behavior detection in both synthetic and real data.
