Abstract:

Abstract:
The $B_s^0 \rightarrow J/ψφφ$ decay is observed in $pp$ collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb$^{-1}$ recorded by the LHCb detector at centre-of-mass energies of 7 TeV and 8 TeV. The $B_s^0 \rightarrow J/ψφφ$ decay is observed in $pp$ collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb$^{-1}$ recorded by the LHCb detector at centre-of-mass energies of 7 TeV and 8 TeV. This is the first observation of this decay channel, with a statistical significance of 15 standard deviations. The mass of the $B_s^0$ meson is measured to be $5367.08\,\pm \,0.38\,\pm\, 0.15$ MeV/c$^2$. The branching fraction ratio $\mathcal{B}(B_s^0 \rightarrow J/ψφφ)/\mathcal{B}(B_s^0 \rightarrow J/ψφ)$ is measured to be $0.0115\,\pm\, 0.0012\, ^{+0.0005}_{-0.0009}$. In both cases, the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. No evidence for non-resonant $B_s^0 \rightarrow J/ψφK^+ K^-$ or $B_s^0 \rightarrow J/ψK^+ K^- K^+ K^-$ decays is found.

Two-particle angular correlations are studied in proton-lead collisions at a nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s_{\text{NN}}}=5$TeV, collected with the LHCb detector at the LHC. The analysis is based on data recorded in two beam configurations, in which either the direction of the proton or that of the lead ion is analysed. The correlations are measured in the laboratory system as a function of relative pseudorapidity, $Δη$, and relative azimuthal angle, $Δφ$, for events in different classes of event activity and for different bins of particle transverse momentum. In high-activity events a long-range correlation on the near side, $Δφ\approx 0$, is observed in the pseudorapidity range $2.0<η<4.9$. This measurement of long-range correlations on the near side in proton-lead collisions extends previous observations into the forward region up to $η=4.9$. The correlation increases with growing event activity and is found to be more pronounced in the direction of the lead beam. However, the correlation in the direction of the lead and proton beams are found to be compatible when comparing events with similar absolute activity in the direction analysed.

Decay candidates with muon pairs that have an invariant mass in the range 675--875 MeV$/c^2$ are considered. This region is dominated by the $ρ^{0}$ and $ω$ resonances. The branching fraction in this range is measured to be ${\cal B}$($D^{0}\rightarrow K^{-}π^{+}μ^{+}μ^{-}$) = $(4.17 \pm 0.12(stat) \pm 0.40(syst))\times10^{-6}$. This is the first observation of the decay $D^{0}\rightarrow K^{-}π^{+}μ^{+}μ^{-}$. Its branching fraction is consistent with the value expected in the Standard Model.

Branching fraction values larger than $1.7\times 10^{-6}$ for the $B^{0}\to J/ψγ$ decay mode are excluded at 90% confidence level. For the $B^{0}_{s}\to J/ψγ$ decay mode, branching fraction values larger than $7.4\times 10^{-6}$ are excluded at 90% confidence level, this is the first branching fraction limit for this decay.

${f_{Ξ_b^-}\over{f_{Λ_b^0}}}{\cal{B}}(Ξ_b^-\toΛ_b^0π^-) = (5.7\pm1.8^{+0.8}_{-0.9})\times10^{-4}$, where $f_{Ξ_b^-}$ and $f_{Λ_b^0}$ are the $b\toΞ_b^-$ and $b\toΛ_b^0$ fragmentation fractions, and ${\cal{B}}(Ξ_b^-\toΛ_b^0π^-)$ is the branching fraction. Assuming $f_{Ξ_b^-}/f_{Λ_b^0}$ is bounded between 0.1 and 0.3, the branching fraction ${\cal{B}}(Ξ_b^-\toΛ_b^0π^-)$ would lie in the range from $(0.57\pm0.21)\%$ to $(0.19\pm0.07)\%$.

The decay $B^0\to ψ(2S) K^+π^-$ is analyzed using $\rm 3~fb^{-1}$ of $pp$ collision data collected with the LHCb detector. A model-independent description of the $ψ(2S) π$ mass spectrum is obtained, using as input the $Kπ$ mass spectrum and angular distribution derived directly from data, without requiring a theoretical description of resonance shapes or their interference. The hypothesis that the $ψ(2S)π$ mass spectrum can be described in terms of $Kπ$ reflections alone is rejected with more than 8$σ$ significance. This provides confirmation, in a model-independent way, of the need for an additional resonant component in the mass region of the $Z(4430)^-$ exotic state.

Production cross-sections of prompt charm mesons are measured with the first data from $pp$ collisions at the LHC at a centre-of-mass energy of $13\,\mathrm{TeV}$. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of $4.98 \pm 0.19\,\mathrm{pb}^{-1}$ collected by the LHCb experiment. The production cross-sections of $D^{0}$, $D^{+}$, $D_{s}^{+}$, and $D^{*+}$ mesons are measured in bins of charm meson transverse momentum, $p_{\mathrm{T}}$, and rapidity, $y$, and cover the range $0 < p_{\mathrm{T}} < 15\,\mathrm{GeV}/c$ and $2.0 < y < 4.5$. The inclusive cross-sections for the four mesons, including charge conjugation, within the range of $1 < p_{\mathrm{T}} < 8\,\mathrm{GeV}/c$ are found to be \begin{equation} σ(pp \to D^{0} X) = 2072 \pm 2 \pm 124\,μ\mathrm{b}\\ σ(pp \to D^{+} X) = 834 \pm 2 \pm \phantom{1}78\,μ\mathrm{b}\\ σ(pp \to D_{s}^{+} X) = 353 \pm 9 \pm \phantom{1}76\,μ\mathrm{b}\\ σ(pp \to D^{*+} X) = 784 \pm 4 \pm \phantom{1}87\,μ\mathrm{b} \end{equation} where the uncertainties are due to statistical and systematic uncertainties, respectively.

The forward-backward charge asymmetry for the process $q\bar{q} \rightarrow Z/γ^{\ast} \rightarrow μ^{+}μ^{-}$ is measured as a function of the invariant mass of the dimuon system. Measurements are performed using proton proton collision data collected with the LHCb detector at $\sqrt{s} = 7$ and 8\tev, corresponding to integrated luminosities of $1$fb$^{-1}$ and $2$fb$^{-1}$ respectively. Within the Standard Model the results constrain the effective electroweak mixing angle to be $$sin^{2}θ_{W}^{eff} = 0.23142 \pm 0.00073 \pm 0.00052 \pm 0.00056 $$ where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic and the third theoretical. This result is in agreement with the current world average, and is one of the most precise determinations at hadron colliders to date.

Relative magnitude and phase information is determined, and coherence factors and related observables are computed for both the whole phase space and a restricted region of $100\,\mathrm{MeV/}c^2$ around the $K^{*}(892)^{\pm}$ resonance. Two formulations for the $Kπ$ $S$-wave are used, both of which give a good description of the data. The ratio of branching fractions $\mathcal{B}(D^0\to K^0_S K^+ π^-)/\mathcal{B}(D^0\to K^0_S K^- π^+)$ is measured to be $0.655\pm0.004\,(\textrm{stat})\pm0.006\,(\textrm{syst})$ over the full phase space and $0.370\pm0.003\, (\textrm{stat})\pm0.012\,(\textrm{syst})$ in the restricted region. A search for $CP$ violation is performed using the amplitude models and no significant effect is found. Predictions from $SU(3)$ flavor symmetry for $K^{*}(892)K$ amplitudes of different charges are compared with the amplitude model results.

Cross-section measurements are performed as a function of the transverse momentum $p_\mathrm{T}$ and the rapidity $y$ of the $J/ψ$ meson in the region $p_\mathrm{T}<14\mathrm{GeV}/c$ and $2.0<y<4.5$, for both prompt $J/ψ$ mesons and $J/ψ$ mesons from $b$-hadron decays. The production cross-sections integrated over the kinematic coverage are $15.03\pm 0.03\pm 0.94$ $μ$b for prompt $J/ψ$ and $2.25\pm 0.01\pm 0.14$ $μ$b for $J/ψ$ from $b$-hadron decays, assuming zero polarization of the $J/ψ$ meson. The first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. The cross-section reported for $J/ψ$ mesons from $b$-hadron decays is used to extrapolate to a total $b\bar{b}$ cross-section. The ratios of the cross-sections with respect to $\sqrt{s}=8$ TeV are also determined.

The total branching fraction and $C\!P$ asymmetry of $B^\pm\toπ^\pmμ^+μ^-$ decays are measured to be \begin{eqnarray} \mathcal{B}(B^\pm\toπ^\pmμ^+μ^-) &=& (1.83 \pm 0.24 \pm 0.05) \times 10^{-8}\,\,\,\mathrm{and} \nonumber\\ \mathcal{A}_{C\!P}(B^\pm\toπ^\pmμ^+μ^-) &=& -0.11 \pm 0.12 \pm 0.01\,, \nonumber \end{eqnarray} where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. These are the most precise measurements of these observables to date, and they are compatible with the predictions of the Standard Model.

The kinematic region of the measurements is $p_{\rm T}<20~{\rm GeV}/c$ and $2.0<y<4.5$. The measurements use a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $3~{\rm fb}^{-1}$ collected by the LHCb detector in $pp$ collisions at centre-of-mass energies $\sqrt{s}=7~{\rm TeV}$ in 2011 and $\sqrt{s}=8~{\rm TeV}$ in 2012. Based on previous LHCb results of the fragmentation fraction ratio, $f_{Λ_B^0}/f_d$, the branching fraction of the decay $Λ_b^0\rightarrow J/ψpK^-$ is measured to be \begin{equation*} \mathcal{B}(Λ_b^0\rightarrow J/ψpK^-)= (3.17\pm0.04\pm0.07\pm0.34^{+0.45}_{-0.28})\times10^{-4}, \end{equation*} where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, the third is due to the uncertainty on the branching fraction of the decay $\overline{B}^0\rightarrow J/ψ\overline{K}^*(892)^0$, and the fourth is due to the knowledge of $f_{Λ_b^0}/f_d$. The sum of the asymmetries in the production and decay between $Λ_b^0$ and $\overlineΛ_b^0$ is also measured as a function of $p_{\rm T}$ and $y$. The previously published branching fraction of $Λ_b^0\rightarrow J/ψpπ^-$, relative to that of $Λ_b^0\rightarrow J/ψpK^-$, is updated. The branching fractions of $Λ_b^0\rightarrow P_c^+(\rightarrow J/ψp)K^-$ are determined.

A search is presented for hidden-sector bosons, $χ$, produced in the decay ${B^0\!\to K^*(892)^0χ}$, with $K^*(892)^0\!\to K^{+}π^{-}$ and $χ\!\toμ^+μ^-$. The search is performed using $pp$-collision data corresponding to 3.0 fb$^{-1}$ collected with the LHCb detector. No significant signal is observed in the accessible mass range $214 \leq m(χ) \leq 4350$ MeV, and upper limits are placed on the branching fraction product $\mathcal{B}(B^0\!\to K^*(892)^0χ)\times\mathcal{B}(χ\!\toμ^+μ^-)$ as a function of the mass and lifetime of the $χ$ boson. These limits are of the order of $10^{-9}$ for $χ$ lifetimes less than 100 ps over most of the $m(χ)$ range, and place the most stringent constraints to date on many theories that predict the existence of additional low-mass bosons.

This is the most precise measurement of this branching fraction to date, representing a factor five reduction in the statistical uncertainty compared with the previous best measurement. A search for the decay $B^0 \to φφ$ is also made. No signal is observed, and an upper limit on the branching fraction is set as \[ \mathcal{B}(B^0 \to φφ) < 2.8 \times 10^{-8} \] at 90% confidence level. This is a factor of seven improvement compared to the previous best limit.

An algorithm is described for tagging the flavour content at production of neutral $B$ mesons in the LHCb experiment. The algorithm exploits the correlation of the flavour of a $B$ meson with the charge of a reconstructed secondary charm hadron from the decay of the other $b$ hadron produced in the proton-proton collision. Charm hadron candidates are identified in a number of fully or partially reconstructed Cabibbo-favoured decay modes. The algorithm is calibrated on the self-tagged decay modes $B^+ \to J/ψ\, K^+$ and $B^0 \to J/ψ\, K^{*0}$ using $3.0\mathrm{\,fb}^{-1}$ of data collected by the LHCb experiment at $pp$ centre-of-mass energies of $7\mathrm{\,TeV}$ and $8\mathrm{\,TeV}$. Its tagging power on these samples of $B \to J/ψ\, X$ decays is $(0.30 \pm 0.01 \pm 0.01) \%$.

Observations of exotic structures in the $J/ψp$ channel, that we refer to as pentaquark-charmonium states, in $Λ_b^0\to J/ψK^- p$ decays are presented. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 3/fb acquired with the LHCb detector from 7 and 8 TeV pp collisions. An amplitude analysis is performed on the three-body final-state that reproduces the two-body mass and angular distributions. To obtain a satisfactory fit of the structures seen in the $J/ψp$ mass spectrum, it is necessary to include two Breit-Wigner amplitudes that each describe a resonant state. The significance of each of these resonances is more than 9 standard deviations. One has a mass of $4380\pm 8\pm 29$ MeV and a width of $205\pm 18\pm 86$ MeV, while the second is narrower, with a mass of $4449.8\pm 1.7\pm 2.5$ MeV and a width of $39\pm 5\pm 19$ MeV. The preferred $J^P$ assignments are of opposite parity, with one state having spin 3/2 and the other 5/2.

The $B_{s}^{0} \to K_{S}^{0} K^{*}(892)^{0}$ decay is observed for the first time, with a significance of 7.1 standard deviations. The branching fraction is measured to be \begin{equation*} \mathcal{B}(B_{s}^{0} \to \bar{K}^{0} K^{*}(892)^{0}) + \mathcal{B}(B_{s}^{0} \to K^{0} \bar{K}^{*}(892)^{0}) = (16.4 \pm 3.4 \pm 2.3) \times 10^{-6},\\ \end{equation*} where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. No evidence is found for the decay $B^{0} \to K_{S}^{0} K^{*}(892)^{0}$ and an upper limit is set on the branching fraction, $\mathcal{B}(B^{0} \to \bar{K}^{0} K^{*}(892)^{0}) + \mathcal{B}(B^{0} \to K^{0} \bar{K}^{*}(892)^{0}) < 0.96 \ \times 10^{-6}, $ at $90\,\% $ confidence level. All results are consistent with Standard Model predictions.

The branching fraction ratio $\mathcal{R}(D^{*}) \equiv \mathcal{B}(\overline{B}^0 \to D^{*+}τ^{-}\overlineν_τ)/\mathcal{B}(\overline{B}^0 \to D^{*+}μ^{-}\overlineν_μ)$ is measured using a sample of proton-proton collision data corresponding to 3.0\invfb of integrated luminosity recorded by the LHCb experiment during 2011 and 2012. The tau lepton is identified in the decay mode $τ^{-} \to μ^{-}\overlineν_μν_τ$. The semitauonic decay is sensitive to contributions from non-Standard-Model particles that preferentially couple to the third generation of fermions, in particular Higgs-like charged scalars. A multidimensional fit to kinematic distributions of the candidate $\overline{B}^0$ decays gives $\mathcal{R}(D^{*}) = 0.336 \pm 0.027(stat) \pm 0.030 (syst)$. This result, which is the first measurement of this quantity at a hadron collider, is 2.1 standard deviations larger than the value expected from lepton universality in the Standard Model.

These results, along with the observed differential yields and charge asymmetries, are in agreement with next-to-leading order Standard Model predictions.

A study is presented of central exclusive production of $Υ(nS)$ states, where the $Υ(nS)$ resonances decay to the $μ^+μ^-$ final state, using $pp$ collision data recorded by the LHCb experiment. The cross-section is measured in the rapidity range $2<y(Υ)<4.5$ where the muons are reconstructed in the pseudorapidity range $2<η(μ^\pm)<4.5$. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 2.9 fb$^{-1}$ and was collected at centre-of-mass energies of $7$ TeV and $8$ TeV. The measured $Υ(1S)$ and $Υ(2S)$ production cross-sections are \begin{eqnarray} σ(pp \to pΥ(1S)p) &=& 9.0 \pm 2.1 \pm 1.7\textrm{ pb and}\nonumber\\ σ(pp \to pΥ(2S)p) &=& 1.3 \pm 0.8 \pm 0.3\textrm{ pb},\nonumber \end{eqnarray} where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. The $Υ(1S)$ cross-section is also measured as a function of rapidity and is found to be in good agreement with Standard Model predictions. An upper limit is set at 3.4 pb at the 95\% confidence level for the exclusive $Υ(3S)$ production cross-section, including possible contamination from $χ_b(3P)\toΥ(3S)γ$ decays.

We report a study of the suppressed $B^-\to DK^-π^+π^-$ and favored $B^-\to Dπ^-π^+π^-$ decays, where the neutral $D$ meson is detected through its decays to the $K^{\mp}π^{\pm}$ and CP-even $K^+K^-$ and $π^+π^-$ final states. The measurement is carried out using a proton-proton collision data sample collected by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0~fb$^{-1}$. We observe the first significant signals in the CP-even final states of the $D$ meson for both the suppressed $B^-\to DK^-π^+π^-$ and favored $B^-\to Dπ^-π^+π^-$ modes, as well as in the doubly Cabibbo-suppressed $D\to K^+π^-$ final state of the $B^-\to Dπ^-π^+π^-$ decay. Evidence for the ADS suppressed decay $B^{-}\to DK^-π^+π^-$, with $D\to K^+π^-$, is also presented. From the observed yields in the $B^-\to DK^-π^+π^-$, $B^-\to Dπ^-π^+π^-$ and their charge conjugate decay modes, we measure the value of the weak phase to be $γ=(74^{+20}_{-19})^{\rm o}$. This is one of the most precise single-measurement determinations of $γ$ to date.

The data were recorded by the LHCb detector during $pp$ collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV, and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb$^{-1}$. The cross-section is measured for muons in the pseudorapidity range $2.0 < η< 4.5$ with transverse momenta $p_{T} > 20$ GeV/c. The dimuon mass is restricted to $60 < M_{μ^{+}μ^{-}} < 120$ GeV/c$^{2}$. The measured cross-section is $$σ_{Z\rightarrowμ^{+}μ^{-}} = (76.0 \pm 0.3 \pm 0.5 \pm 1.0 \pm 1.3) \, \text{pb}$$ where the uncertainties are due to the sample size, systematic effects, the beam energy and the luminosity. This result is in good agreement with theoretical predictions at next-to-next-to-leading order in perturbative quantum chromodynamics. The cross-section is also measured differentially as a function of kinematic variables of the $Z$ boson. Ratios of the production cross-sections of electroweak bosons are presented using updated LHCb measurements of $W$ boson production. A precise test of the Standard Model is provided by the measurement of the ratio $$\frac{σ_{W^{+}\rightarrowμ^{+}ν_μ} + σ_{W^{-}\rightarrowμ^{-}\barν_μ}}{σ_{Z\rightarrowμ^{+}μ^{-}}} = 20.63\pm0.09\pm0.12\pm0.05,$$ where the uncertainty due to luminosity cancels.

The ratio of the $W+$jet to $Z+$jet production cross-sections is also measured using the $Z\toμμ$ decay. All results are in agreement with Standard Model predictions.

Abstract:
The resonant substructures of $B^0 \to \overline{D}^0 π^+π^-$ decays are studied with the Dalitz plot technique. The resonant substructures of $B^0 \to \overline{D}^0 π^+π^-$ decays are studied with the Dalitz plot technique. In this study a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb$^{-1}$ of $pp$ collisions collected by the LHCb detector is used. The branching fraction of the $B^0 \to \overline{D}^0 π^+π^-$ decay in the region $m(\overline{D}^0π^{\pm})>2.1$ GeV$/c^2$ is measured to be $(8.46 \pm 0.14 \pm 0.29 \pm 0.40) \times 10^{-4}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic and the last arises from the normalisation channel $B^0 \to D^*(2010)^-π^+$. The $π^+π^-$ S-wave components are modelled with the Isobar and K-matrix formalisms. Results of the Dalitz plot analyses using both models are presented. A resonant structure at $m(\overline{D}^0π^-) \approx 2.8$ GeV$/c^{2}$ is confirmed and its spin-parity is determined for the first time as $J^P = 3^-$. The branching fraction, mass and width of this structure are determined together with those of the $D^*_0(2400)^-$ and $D^*_2(2460)^-$ resonances. The branching fractions of other $B^0 \to \overline{D}^0 h^0$ decay components with $h^0 \to π^+π^-$ are also reported. Many of these branching fraction measurements are the most precise to date. The first observation of the decays $B^0 \to \overline{D}^0 f_0(500)$, $B^0 \to \overline{D}^0 f_0(980)$, $B^0 \to \overline{D}^0 ρ(1450)$, $B^0 \to D_3^*(2760)^- π^+$ and the first evidence of $B^0 \to \overline{D}^0 f_0(2020)$ are presented.

The data are described by an amplitude model that contains contributions from intermediate $K^*(892)^0$, $K^*(1410)^0$, $K^*_2(1430)^0$ and $D^*_2(2460)^-$ resonances. The model also contains components to describe broad structures, including the $K^*_0(1430)^0$ and $D^*_0(2400)^-$ resonances, in the $Kπ$ S-wave and the $Dπ$ S- and P-waves. The masses and widths of the $D^*_0(2400)^-$ and $D^*_2(2460)^-$ resonances are measured, as are the complex amplitudes and fit fractions for all components included in the amplitude model. The model obtained will be an integral part of a future determination of the angle $γ$ of the CKM quark mixing matrix using $B^0 \rightarrow D K^+ π^-$ decays.

Identification of jets originating from beauty and charm quarks is important for measuring Standard Model processes and for searching for new physics. The performance of algorithms developed to select $b$- and $c$-quark jets is measured using data recorded by LHCb from proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV in 2011 and at $\sqrt{s}=8$ TeV in 2012. The efficiency for identifying a $b(c)$ jet is about 65%(25%) with a probability for misidentifying a light-parton jet of 0.3% for jets with transverse momentum $p_{\rm T} > 20$ GeV and pseudorapidity $2.2 < η< 4.2$. The dependence of the performance on the $p_{\rm T}$ and $η$ of the jet is also measured.

This determination, for the first time performed without assuming a value for the orbital angular momentum, confirms the quantum numbers to be $J^{PC}=1^{++}$. The $X(3872)$ is found to decay predominantly through S wave and an upper limit of $4\%$ at $95\%$ C.L. is set on the fraction of D wave.

In the Standard Model of particle physics, the strength of the couplings of the $b$ quark to the $u$ and $c$ quarks, $|V_{ub}|$ and $|V_{cb}|$, are governed by the coupling of the quarks to the Higgs boson. Using data from the LHCb experiment at the Large Hadron Collider, the probability for the $Λ^0_b$ baryon to decay into the $p μ^- \overlineν_μ$ final state relative to the $Λ^+_c μ^- \overlineν_μ$ final state is measured. Combined with theoretical calculations of the strong interaction and a previously measured value of $|V_{cb}|$, the first $|V_{ub}|$ measurement to use a baryonic decay is performed. This measurement is consistent with previous determinations of $|V_{ub}|$ using $B$ meson decays to specific final states and confirms the existing incompatibility with those using an inclusive sample of final states.

The $D_s^{*\mp}$ mesons are reconstructed through the decay chain $D_s^{*\mp} \to γD_s^{\mp}(K^{\mp}K^{\pm}π^{\mp})$. The branching fraction relative to that for $B^0_s \to D_s^{*-} π^{+}$ is measured to be $0.068 \pm 0.005 ^{+0.003}_{-0.002}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. Using a recent measurement of $BR(B^0_s \to D_s^{*-} π^{+})$ the absolute branching fraction of $B^0_s \to D_s^{*\mp} K^{\pm}$ is measured as ( 16.3 $\pm$ 1.2 (stat) $^{+0.7}_{-0.5}$ (syst) $\pm$ 4.8 (norm) ) $\times$ 10$^{-5}$, where the third uncertainty is due to the uncertainty on the branching fraction of the normalisation channel.

Proton-proton collision data recorded in 2011 and 2012 by the \lhcb experiment, co\-rres\-pon\-ding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0\invfb, are a\-na\-lysed to search for the charmless ${B^0 \to ρ^0 ρ^0}$ decay. More than 600 ${\B^0 \to (π^+π^-)(π^+π^-)}$ signal decays are selected and used to perform an amplitude analysis from which the ${B^0 \to ρ^0 ρ^0}$ decay is observed for the first time with 7.1 standard deviations significance. The fraction of ${B^0 \to ρ^0 ρ^0}$ decays yielding a longitudinally polarised final state is measured to be $\fL = 0.745^{+0.048}_{-0.058} ({\rm stat}) \pm 0.034 ({\rm syst})$. The ${B^0 \to ρ^0 ρ^0}$ branching fraction, using the ${\B^0 \to φK^*(892)^{0}}$ decay as reference, is also reported as ${\BF(B^0 \to ρ^0 ρ^0) = (0.94 \pm 0.17 ({\rm stat}) \pm 0.09 ({\rm syst}) \pm 0.06 ({\rm BF})) \times 10^{-6}}$.

The first observation of the $B^0_s\toη'η'$ decay is reported. The study is based on a sample of proton-proton collisions corresponding to $3.0$ ${\rm fb^{-1}}$ of integrated luminosity collected with the LHCb detector. The significance of the signal is $6.4$ standard deviations. The branching fraction is measured to be $[3.31 \pm 0.64\,{\rm (stat)} \pm 0.28\,{\rm (syst)} \pm 0.12\,{\rm (norm)}]\times10^{-5}$, where the third uncertainty comes from the $B^{\pm}\toη' K^{\pm}$ branching fraction that is used as a normalisation. In addition, the charge asymmetries of $B^{\pm}\toη' K^{\pm}$ and $B^{\pm}\toφK^{\pm}$, which are control channels, are measured to be $(-0.2 \pm1.3)\%$ and $(+1.7\pm1.3)\%$, respectively. All results are consistent with theoretical expectations.

The analysis is performed using proton-proton collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $3.0 \mbox{ fb}^{-1}$, collected by the LHCb experiment. Evidence of signal is observed in the $q^2$ region below the square of the $J/ψ$ mass. Integrating over $15 < q^{2} < 20 \mbox{ GeV}^2/c^4$ the branching fraction is measured as $d\mathcal{B}(Λ^{0}_{b} \rightarrow Λμ^+μ^-)/dq^2 = (1.18 ^{+ 0.09} _{-0.08} \pm 0.03 \pm 0.27) \times 10^{-7} ( \mbox{GeV}^{2}/c^{4})^{-1}$, where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic and due to the normalisation mode, $Λ^{0}_{b} \rightarrow J/ψΛ$, respectively. In the $q^2$ intervals where the signal is observed, angular distributions are studied and the forward-backward asymmetries in the dimuon ($A^{l}_{\rm FB}$) and hadron ($A^{h}_{\rm FB}$) systems are measured for the first time. In the range $15 < q^2 < 20 \mbox{ GeV}^2/c^4$ they are found to be $A^{l}_{\rm FB} = -0.05 \pm 0.09 \mbox{ (stat)} \pm 0.03 \mbox{ (syst)}$ and $A^{h}_{\rm FB} = -0.29 \pm 0.07 \mbox{ (stat)} \pm 0.03 \mbox{ (syst)}$.

Abstract:
The decay $\overline{B}_s^0 \rightarrow ψ(2S) K^+ π^-$ is observed using a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $3.0fb^{-1}$ collected by the LHCb experiment in $pp$ collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV. The decay $\overline{B}_s^0 \rightarrow ψ(2S) K^+ π^-$ is observed using a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $3.0fb^{-1}$ collected by the LHCb experiment in $pp$ collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV. The branching fraction relative to the $B^0\rightarrow ψ(2S) K^+ π^-$ decay mode is measured to be \begin{equation} \frac{{\cal B}(\overline{B}^0_s \rightarrow ψ(2S) K^+ π^-)}{{\cal B}(B^0
\rightarrow ψ(2S) K^+ π^-)} = 5.38 \pm 0.36 (stat) \pm 0.22 (syst) \pm 0.31 \, (f_s/f_d) \, \%,\nonumber \end{equation} where $f_s/f_d$ indicates the uncertainty due to the ratio of probabilities for a $b$ quark to hadronise into a $B_s^0$ or $B^0$ meson. Using an amplitude analysis, the fraction of decays proceeding via an intermediate $K^*(892)^0$ meson is measured to be $0.645 \pm 0.049 (stat) \pm 0.049 (syst)$ and its longitudinal polarisation fraction is $0.524 \pm 0.056 (stat) \pm 0.029 (syst)$. The relative branching fraction for this component is determined to be \begin{equation} \frac{{\cal B}(\overline{B}^0_s \rightarrow ψ(2S) K^*(892)^0)}{{\cal B}(B^0

Measurements are presented of the $CP$ violation observables $S$ and $C$ in the decays of $B^0$ and $\overline{B}{}^0$ mesons to the $J/ψK^0_S$ final state. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of $3.0\,\text{fb}^{-1}$ collected with the LHCb experiment in proton-proton collisions at center-of-mass energies of $7$ and $8\,\text{TeV}$. The analysis of the time evolution of $41500$ $B^0$ and $\overline{B}{}^0$ decays yields $S = 0.731 \pm 0.035 \, \text{(stat)} \pm 0.020 \,\text{(syst)}$ and $C = -0.038 \pm 0.032 \, \text{(stat)} \pm 0.005\,\text{(syst)}$. In the Standard Model, $S$ equals $\sin(2β)$ to a good level of precision. The values are consistent with the current world averages and with the Standard Model expectations.

The first measurement of decay-time-dependent CP asymmetries in the decay $B_s^0\rightarrow J/ψK_{\rm S}^0$ and an updated measurement of the ratio of branching fractions $\mathcal{B}(B_s^0\rightarrow J/ψK_{\rm S}^0)/\mathcal{B}(B_d^0\rightarrow J/ψK_{\rm S}^0)$} are presented. The results are obtained using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb$^{-1}$ of proton-proton collisions recorded with the LHCb detector at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV. The results on the CP asymmetries are $A_{ΔΓ}(B_s^0\rightarrow J/ψK_{\rm S}^0) = 0.49_{-0.65}^{+0.77}(stat) \pm 0.06(syst)$, $C_{\rm dir}(B_s^0\rightarrow J/ψK_{\rm S}^0) = -0.28 \pm 0.41(stat) \pm 0.08(syst)$ and $S_{\rm mix}(B_s^0\rightarrow J/ψK_{\rm S}^0) = -0.08 \pm 0.40(stat) \pm 0.08(syst)$. The ratio $\mathcal{B}(B_s^0\rightarrow J/ψK_{\rm S}^0)/\mathcal{B}(B_d^0\rightarrow J/ψK_{\rm S}^0)$ is measured to be $0.0431 \pm 0.0017(stat) \pm 0.0012(syst) \pm 0.0025(f_s/f_d)$, where the last uncertainty is due to the knowledge of the $B_s^0$ and $B_d^0$ production fractions.

An angular analysis of the decay $B_s^0 \rightarrow K^{*0}\bar{K}{}^{*0}$ is performed using $pp$ collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $1.0$ ${fb}^{-1}$ collected by the LHCb experiment at a centre-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s} = 7$ TeV. A combined angular and mass analysis separates six helicity amplitudes and allows the measurement of the longitudinal polarisation fraction $f_L = 0.201 \pm 0.057 {(stat.)} \pm 0.040{(syst.)}$ for the $B_s^0 \rightarrow K^*(892)^0 \bar{K}{}^*(892)^0$ decay. A large scalar contribution from the $K^{*}_{0}(1430)$ and $K^{*}_{0}(800)$ resonances is found, allowing the determination of additional $CP$ asymmetries. Triple product and direct $CP$ asymmetries are determined to be compatible with the Standard Model expectations. The branching fraction $\mathcal{B}(B_s^0 \rightarrow K^*(892)^0 \bar{K}{}^*(892)^0)$ is measured to be $(10.8 \pm 2.1 {\ \rm (stat.)} \pm 1.4 {\ \rm (syst.)} \pm 0.6 \ (f_d/f_s) ) \times 10^{-6}$.

Its branching fraction is measured to be ${\cal B}(B^{-}\to D^{+}K^{-}π^{-}) = (7.31 \pm 0.19 \pm 0.22 \pm 0.39) \times 10^{-5}$ where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic and from the branching fraction of the normalisation channel $B^{-}\to D^{+}π^{-}π^{-}$, respectively. An amplitude analysis of the resonant structure of the $B^{-}\to D^{+}K^{-}π^{-}$ decay is used to measure the contributions from quasi-two-body $B^{-}\to D_{0}^{*}(2400)^{0}K^{-}$, $B^{-}\to D_{2}^{*}(2460)^{0}K^{-}$, and $B^{-}\to D_{J}^{*}(2760)^{0}K^{-}$ decays, as well as from nonresonant sources. The $D_{J}^{*}(2760)^{0}$ resonance is determined to have spin~1.

A measurement of the cross-section for Z-boson production in the forward region of pp collisions at 8TeV centre-of-mass energy is presented. The measurement is based on a sample of $\rm Z\rightarrow e^+e^-$ decays reconstructed using the LHCb detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.0fb$^{-1}$. The acceptance is defined by the requirements $2.0<η<4.5$ and $p_{\rm T}>20$GeV for the pseudorapidities and transverse momenta of the leptons. Their invariant mass is required to lie in the range 60--120GeV. The cross-section is determined to be $$ σ({\rm pp\to Z\to e^+e^-})=93.81\pm0.41({\rm stat})\pm1.48({\rm syst})\pm1.14({\rm lumi})\;{\rm pb}\,,$$ where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second reflects all systematic effects apart from that arising from the luminosity, which is given as the third uncertainty. Differential cross-sections are presented as functions of the Z-boson rapidity and of the angular variable $φ^*$, which is related to the Z-boson transverse momentum.
