Glycosylation is a critical quality attribute for monoclonal antibody, and multiscale mechanistic models, spanning from the bioreactor to the Golgi apparatus, have been proposed for analyzing the glycosylation process. However, these models are computationally intensive to solve, making optimization and control challenging. In this work, we propose a quasi-steady-state (QSS) approach for efficiently solving the multiscale glycosylation model. By introducing the QSS assumption and assuming negligible nucleotide sugar donor flux for glycosylation in the Golgi, the large-scale partial differential algebraic equation system is converted into a series of independent differential algebraic equation systems. Based on that representation, we develop a three-step QSS simulation method and further reduce computational time through parallel computing and nonuniform time grid strategies. Case studies in simulation, parameter estimation, and dynamic optimization demonstrate that the QSS approach can be more than 300-fold faster than the method of lines, with less than 1.6% relative errors.

In this paper, we consider numerical approximations for the optimal partition problem using Lagrange multipliers. By rewriting it into constrained gradient flows, three and four steps numerical schemes based on the Lagrange multiplier approach \cite{ChSh22,ChSh_II22} are proposed to solve the constrained gradient system. Numerical schemes proposed for the constrained gradient flows satisfy the nice properties of orthogonality-preserving, norm-preserving, positivity-preserving and energy dissipating. The proposed schemes are very efficient in which only linear Poisson equations are solved at each time step. Extensive numerical results in 2D and 3D for optimal partition problem are presented to validate the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed numerical schemes.

Diffusion Transformer, the backbone of Sora for video generation, successfully scales the capacity of diffusion models, pioneering new avenues for high-fidelity sequential data generation. Unlike static data such as images, sequential data consists of consecutive data frames indexed by time, exhibiting rich spatial and temporal dependencies. These dependencies represent the underlying dynamic model and are critical to validate the generated data. In this paper, we make the first theoretical step towards bridging diffusion transformers for capturing spatial-temporal dependencies. Specifically, we establish score approximation and distribution estimation guarantees of diffusion transformers for learning Gaussian process data with covariance functions of various decay patterns. We highlight how the spatial-temporal dependencies are captured and affect learning efficiency. Our study proposes a novel transformer approximation theory, where the transformer acts to unroll an algorithm. We support our theoretical results by numerical experiments, providing strong evidence that spatial-temporal dependencies are captured within attention layers, aligning with our approximation theory.

We propose a hidden convexity-based method to address distributed optimal energy flow (OEF) problems for transmission-level integrated electricity-gas systems. First, we develop a node-wise decoupling method to de-compose an OEF problem into multiple OEF subproblems. Then, we propose a hidden convexity-based method to equivalently reformulate nonconvex OEF subproblems as semi-definite programs. This method differs from any ap-proximation and convexification methods that may incur infeasible solutions. Since all OEF subproblems are origi-nally convex or equivalently convexified, we adopt an ADMM to solve the hidden convexity-based distributed OEF problem with convergence analysis. Test results validate the effectiveness of the proposed method, especially in handling a large number of agents.

In this paper we develop the generalised Schur theory offered in the recent paper by the second author in dimension one case, and apply it to obtain two applications in different directions of algebra/algebraic geometry.
The first application is a new explicit parametrisation of torsion free rank one sheaves on projective irreducible curves with vanishing cohomology groups.
The second application is a commutativity criterion for operators in the Weyl algebra or, more generally, in the ring of ordinary differential operators, which we prove in the case when operators have a normal form with the restriction top line (for details see Introduction).
Both applications are obtained with the help of normal forms. Namely, considering the ring of ordinary differential operators $D_1=K[[x]][\partial ]$ as a subring of a certain complete non-commutative ring $\hat{D}_1^{sym}$, the normal forms of differential operators mentioned here are obtained after conjugation by some invertible operator ("Schur operator"), calculated using one of the operators in a ring. Normal forms of commuting operators are polynomials with constant coefficients in the differentiation, integration and shift operators, which have a restricted finite order in each variable, and can be effectively calculated for any given commuting operators.

In the present note, we address this problem for the affine rank 3 graphs. We find the automorphism groups for finitely many relatively small graphs and show that modulo known results, this provides the full description of the automorphism groups of the affine rank 3 graphs, thus reducing the general problem to the case when the socle of the automorphism group is nonabelian simple.

Wrinkle defects were found widely exist in the field of industrial products, i.e. wind turbine blades and filament-wound composite pressure vessels. The magnitude of wrinkle wavelength varies from several millimeters to over one hundred millimeters. Locating the wrinkle defects and measuring their responses are very important to the assessment of the structures that containing wrinkle defects. A meso-mechanical modeling is presented based on the homogenization method to obtain the effective stiffness of a graded wrinkle. The finite element simulation predicts the trans-scale response of out-of-plane displacement of wrinkled laminates, where the maximum displacement ranges from nanoscale to millimeter scale. Such trans-scale effect requires different measurement approaches to observe the displacement responses. Here we employed Shearography (Speckle Pattern Shearing Interferometry) and fringe projection profilometry (FPP) method respectively according to the different magnitude of displacement. In FPP method, a displacement extraction algorithm was presented to obtain the out-of-plane displacement. The measurement sensitivity and accuracy of Shearography and FPP are compared, which provides a quantitative reference for industrial non-destructive test.

In this paper, we propose a high-performance method for privacy-preserving matrix completion. First,we use a lightweight encryption scheme to encrypt the raw data and then perform matrix completion using alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM). Then, the complemented matrix is decrypted and compared with the original matrix to calculate the error. This method has faster speed with higher accuracy. In this article we present a refined convergence analysis for a second order accurate in time, fourth order finite difference numerical scheme for the 3-D Cahn-Hilliard equation, with an improved convergence constant. A modified backward differentiation formula temporal discretization is applied, and a Douglas-Dupont artificial regularization is included to ensure the energy stability. In fact, a standard application of discrete Gronwall inequality leads to a convergence constant dependent on the interface width parameter in an exponential singular form. We aim to obtain an improved estimate, with such a singular dependence only in a polynomial order. A uniform in time functional bounds of the numerical solution, including the higher order Sobolev norms, as well as the associated bounds for the first and second order temporal difference stencil, have to be carefully established. Certain recursive analysis has to be applied in the analysis for the BDF-style temporal stencil. As a result, we are able to apply a spectrum estimate for the linearized Cahn-Hilliard operator, and this technique leads to the refined error estimate. A three-dimensional numerical example of accuracy check is presented as well.

This paper studies system identification of high-dimensional ARMA models with binary-valued observations. Compared with existing quantized identification of ARMA models, this problem is more challenging since the accessible information is much less. Different from the identification of FIR models with binary-valued observations, the prediction of original system output and the parameter both need to be estimated in ARMA models. We propose an online identification algorithm consisting of parameter estimation and prediction of original system output. The parameter estimation and the prediction of original output are strongly coupled but mutually reinforcing. By analyzing the two estimates at the same time instead of analyzing separately, we finally prove that the parameter estimate can converge to the true parameter with convergence rate $O(1/k)$ under certain conditions. Simulations are given to demonstrate the theoretical results.

Critical transition and tipping phenomena between two meta-stable states in stochastic dynamical systems represents an important problem. In this work, we expand the methodology from the traditional Onsager-Machlup action functional, which typically identifies the most probable transition pathway between two meta-stable states, to investigate the evolutionary transition dynamics between two meta-stable invariant sets. To address this, we incorporate a comprehensive framework derived from Schrödinger bridge and Optimal Transport. In contrast to existing methodologies such as statistical analysis, bifurcation theory, information theory, statistical physics, topology, and graph theory for early warning indicators, we introduce a novel perspective on early warning signals within the realm of probability measures which enables the development of indicators grounded in action functionals.
In order to validate our framework, we apply this methodology to the Morris-Lecar model, which exhibits the generation of the repetitive firing in certain neurons resulting from a saddle-node bifurcation on an invariant circle. By varying the current condition, we investigate the transition dynamics between a meta-stable state and a stable invariant set (the limit cycle or homo-clinic orbit) within Morris-Lecar model. Additionally, we analyze real Alzheimer's data from the ADNI database to explore early warning signals indicating the transition from healthy to pre-AD states. This framework not only expands the transition pathway to encompass measures between two specified densities on invariant sets but also demonstrates potential of early warning indicators or biomarkers in complex diseases.

The stochastic $H_{\infty}$ control is studied for a linear stochastic Itô system with an unknown system model. The linear stochastic $H_{\infty}$ control issue is known to be transformable into the problem of solving a so-called generalized algebraic Riccati equation (GARE), which is a nonlinear equation that is typically difficult to solve analytically. Worse, model-based techniques cannot be utilized to approximately solve a GARE when an accurate system model is unavailable or prohibitively expensive to construct in reality. To address these issues, an off-policy reinforcement learning (RL) approach is presented to learn the solution of a GARE from real system data rather than a system model; its convergence is demonstrated, and the robustness of RL to errors in the learning process is investigated. In the off-policy RL approach, the system data may be created with behavior policies rather than the target policies, which is highly significant and promising for use in actual systems. Finally, the proposed off-policy RL approach is validated on a stochastic linear F-16 aircraft system.

Moreover, we show that every minimal $k$-factor-critical claw-free graph $G$ has at least $\frac{k-1}{2k}|V(G)|$ vertices of degree $k+1$ in the case of $(k+1)$-connected, yielding further evidence for S. A digital twin (DT) is a virtual representation of physical process, products and/or systems that requires a high-fidelity computational model for continuous update through the integration of sensor data and user input. In the context of laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) additive manufacturing, a digital twin of the manufacturing process can offer predictions for the produced parts, diagnostics for manufacturing defects, as well as control capabilities. This paper introduces a parameterized physics-based digital twin (PPB-DT) for the statistical predictions of LPBF metal additive manufacturing process. We accomplish this by creating a high-fidelity computational model that accurately represents the melt pool phenomena and subsequently calibrating and validating it through controlled experiments. In PPB-DT, a mechanistic reduced-order method-driven stochastic calibration process is introduced, which enables the statistical predictions of the melt pool geometries and the identification of defects such as lack-of-fusion porosity and surface roughness, specifically for diagnostic applications. Leveraging data derived from this physics-based model and experiments, we have trained a machine learning-based digital twin (PPB-ML-DT) model for predicting, monitoring, and controlling melt pool geometries. These proposed digital twin models can be employed for predictions, control, optimization, and quality assurance within the LPBF process, ultimately expediting product development and certification in LPBF-based metal additive manufacturing.

This paper explores an optimal investment and reinsurance problem involving both ordinary and catastrophe insurance businesses. The catastrophic events are modeled as following a compound Poisson process, impacting the ordinary insurance business. The claim intensity for the ordinary insurance business is described using a Cox process with a shot-noise intensity, the jump of which is proportional to the size of the catastrophe event. This intensity increases when a catastrophe occurs and then decays over time. The insurer's objective is to maximize their terminal wealth under the Monotone Mean-Variance (MMV) criterion. In contrast to the classical Mean-Variance (MV) criterion, the MMV criterion is monotonic across its entire domain, aligning better with fundamental economic principles. We first formulate the original MMV optimization problem as an auxiliary zero-sum game. Through solving the Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman-Isaacs (HJBI) equation, explicit forms of the value function and optimal strategies are obtained. Additionally, we provides the efficient frontier within the MMV criterion. Several numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the practical implications of the results.

Moreover, they characterized all trees with $m_λ(T)=β'(T)-1$, where $β'(G)$ is the induced matching number of $G$.
In this paper, we intend to extend this result from trees to any connected graph. Contrary to the technique used in \cite{Wong}, we prove the following result mainly by employing algebraic methods: For any non-zero eigenvalue $λ$ of the connected graph $G$, $m_λ(G)\leq β'(G)+c(G)$, where $c(G)$ is the cyclomatic number of $G$, and the equality holds if and only if $G\cong C_3(a,a,a)$ or $G\cong C_5$, or a tree with the diameter is at most $3$. Furthermore, if $β'(G)\geq3$, we characterize all connected graphs with $m_λ(G)=β'(G)+c(G)-1$.

Early warning for epilepsy patients is crucial for their safety and well-being, in particular to prevent or minimize the severity of seizures. Through the patients' EEG data, we propose a meta learning framework to improve the prediction of early ictal signals. The proposed bi-level optimization framework can help automatically label noisy data at the early ictal stage, as well as optimize the training accuracy of the backbone model. To validate our approach, we conduct a series of experiments to predict seizure onset in various long-term windows, with LSTM and ResNet implemented as the baseline models. Our study demonstrates that not only the ictal prediction accuracy obtained by meta learning is significantly improved, but also the resulting model captures some intrinsic patterns of the noisy data that a single backbone model could not learn. As a result, the predicted probability generated by the meta network serves as a highly effective early warning indicator.

In this paper, we first introduce a preconditioned primal-dual gradient algorithm based on conjugate duality theory. This algorithm is designed to solve composite optimization problem whose objective function consists of two summands: a continuously differentiable nonconvex function and the composition of a nonsmooth nonconvex function with a linear operator. In contrast to existing nonconvex primal-dual algorithms, our proposed algorithm, through the utilization of conjugate duality, does not require the calculation of proximal mapping of nonconvex functions. Under mild conditions, we prove that any cluster point of the generated sequence is a critical point of the composite optimization problem. In the context of Kurdyka-Łojasiewicz property, we establish global convergence and convergence rates for the iterates. Secondly, for nonconvex finite-sum optimization, we propose a stochastic algorithm that combines the preconditioned primal-dual gradient algorithm with a class of variance reduced stochastic gradient estimators. Almost sure global convergence and expected convergence rates are derived relying on the Kurdyka-Łojasiewicz inequality. Finally, some preliminary numerical results are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms.

The convergence analysis of optimization algorithms using continuous-time dynamical systems has received much attention in recent years. In this paper, we investigate applications of these systems to analyze the convergence of linearized proximal ADMM algorithms for nonconvex composite optimization, whose objective function is the sum of a continuously differentiable function and a composition of a possibly nonconvex function with a linear operator. We first derive a first-order differential inclusion for the linearized proximal ADMM algorithm, LP-ADMM. Both the global convergence and the convergence rates of the generated trajectory are established with the use of Kurdyka-Łojasiewicz (KL) property. Then, a stochastic variant, LP-SADMM, is delved into an investigation for finite-sum nonconvex composite problems. Under mild conditions, we obtain the stochastic differential equation corresponding to LP-SADMM, and demonstrate the almost sure global convergence of the generated trajectory by leveraging the KL property. Based on the almost sure convergence of trajectory, we construct a stochastic process that converges almost surely to an approximate critical point of objective function, and derive the expected convergence rates associated with this stochastic process. Moreover, we propose an accelerated LP-SADMM that incorporates Nesterov's acceleration technique. The continuous-time dynamical system of this algorithm is modeled as a second-order stochastic differential equation. Within the context of KL property, we explore the related almost sure convergence and expected convergence rates.

This paper presents a prescribed performance-based tracking control strategy for the atmospheric reentry flight of space vehicles subject to rapid maneuvers during flight mission. A time-triggered non-monotonic performance funnel is proposed with the aim of constraints violation avoidance in the case of sudden changes of the reference trajectory. Compared with traditional prescribed performance control methods, the novel funnel boundary is adaptive with respect to the reference path and is capable of achieving stability under disturbances. A recursive control structure is introduced which does not require any knowledge of specific system parameters. By a stability analysis we show that the tracking error evolves within the prescribed error margin under a condition which represents a trade-off between the reference signal and the performance funnel. The effectiveness of the proposed control scheme is verified by simulations.

The proposed method is based on a sparse non-separated enrichment to the conventional tensor decomposition, which is expected to improve the approximation accuracy and the reducibility (compressibility) in highly nonlinear and singular cases. The proposed XTD method can be a powerful tool for solving nonlinear space-time parametric problems. The method has been successfully applied to parametric elastic-plastic problems and real time additive manufacturing residual stress predictions with uncertainty quantification. Furthermore, a combined XTD-SCA (self-consistent clustering analysis) strategy has been presented for multi-scale material modeling, which enables real time multi-scale multi-parametric simulations. The efficiency of the method is demonstrated with comparison to finite element analysis. The proposed method enables a novel framework for fast manufacturing and material design with uncertainties.

To that end, the observed randomness and spatial-correlations are captured by learning the drift and diffusion terms of the stochastic differential equation with a Gumble matrix embedding, respectively. In particular, this novel framework enables us to investigate the implicit regularization effect of the noise terms in S-GGNs. We provide a theoretical guarantee for the proposed S-GGNs by deriving the difference between the two corresponding loss functions in a small neighborhood of weight. Then, we employ Kuramoto's model to generate data for comparing the spectral density from the Hessian Matrix of the two loss functions. Experimental results on real-world data, demonstrate that S-GGNs exhibit superior convergence, robustness, and generalization, compared with state-of-the-arts.

In this paper, we study a continuous-time exploratory mean-variance (EMV) problem under the framework of reinforcement learning (RL), and the Choquet regularizers are used to measure the level of exploration. By applying the classical Bellman principle of optimality, the Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation of the EMV problem is derived and solved explicitly via maximizing statically a mean-variance constrained Choquet regularizer. In particular, the optimal distributions form a location-scale family, whose shape depends on the choices of the Choquet regularizer. We further reformulate the continuous-time Choquet-regularized EMV problem using a variant of the Choquet regularizer. Several examples are given under specific Choquet regularizers that generate broadly used exploratory samplers such as exponential, uniform and Gaussian. Finally, we design a RL algorithm to simulate and compare results under the two different forms of regularizers.

In many scientific and engineering problems, noise and nonlinearity are unavoidable, which could induce interesting mathematical problem such as transition phenomena. This paper focuses on efficiently discovering the most probable transition pathway for stochastic dynamical systems employing reinforcement learning. With the Onsager-Machlup action functional theory to quantify rare events in stochastic dynamical systems, finding the most probable pathway is equivalent to solving a variational problem on the action functional. When the action function cannot be explicitly expressed by paths near the reference orbit, the variational problem needs to be converted into an optimal control problem. First, by integrating terminal prediction into the reinforcement learning framework, we develop a Terminal Prediction Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (TP-DDPG) algorithm to deal with the finite-horizon optimal control issue in a forward way. Next, we present the convergence analysis of our algorithm for the value function in terms of the neural network's approximation error and estimation error. The noise is white in time and smooth in space. We consider both focusing and defocusing nonlinearities, respectively, with exponents of the nonlinearity $σ\in[0,2)$ and $σ\in[0,\infty)$ and prove the polynomial mixing which implies the uniqueness of the invariant measure by using a coupling method.

Abstract:
Let $\mathcal{G}_{n, β^*}$ $(\mathcal{G}^*_{n,β^*})$ be the set of all (connected) graphs of order $n$ with fractional matching number $β^*$. In this paper, the graphs with maximal spectral radius in $\mathcal{G}_{n,β^*}$ and $\mathcal{G}^*_{n,β^*}$ are characterized, respectively. Moreover, a lower bound for the spectral radius in graphs with order $n$ to guarantee the existence of a perfect frac…

Moreover, a lower bound for the spectral radius in graphs with order $n$ to guarantee the existence of a perfect fractional matching is also given, which generalizes the main result of O [Suil O, Spectral radius and matchings in graphs, Linear Algebra and its Applications, 2020].

In this paper, we study a bivariate distributionally robust optimization problem with mean-covariance ambiguity set and half-space support. Under a conventional type of objective function widely adopted in inventory management, option pricing, and portfolio selection, we obtain closed-form tight bounds of the inner problem in six different cases. Through a primal-dual approach, we identify the optimal distributions in each case. As an application in inventory control, we first derive the optimal order quantity and the corresponding worst-case distribution, extending the existing results in the literature. Moreover, we show that under the distributionally robust setting, a centralized inventory system does not necessarily reduce the optimal total inventory, which contradicts conventional wisdom. Furthermore, we identify two effects, a conventional pooling effect, and a novel shifting effect, the combination of which determines the benefit of incorporating the covariance information in the ambiguity set. Finally, we demonstrate through numerical experiments the importance of keeping the covariance information in the ambiguity set instead of compressing the information into one dimension.

Abstract:
In this paper, we study stability problem of anisotropic capillary hypersurfaces in an Euclidean half-space. We prove that any compact immersed anisotropic capillary constant anisotropic mean curvature hypersurface in the half-space is weakly stable if and only if it is a truncated Wulff shape. On the other hand, we prove a Bernstein-type theorem for stable anisotropic capillary minimal surfaces in the three dimensional half-space under Euclidean area growth assumption.

Abstract:
An $r$-uniform hypergraphic sequence (i.e., $r$-graphic sequence) $d=(d_1, d_2,\cdots,d_n)$ is said to be forcibly $k$-edge-connected if every realization of $d$ is $k$-edge-connected. In this paper, we obtain a strongest sufficient degree condition for $d$ to be $k$-edge-connected for all $k\ge 1$ and a strongest sufficient degree condition for $d$ to be super edge-connected. As a corollary, we give the minimum degree condition for $d$ to be maximally edge-connected. We also obtain another sufficient degree condition for $d$ to be $k$-edge-connected.
