Abstract:
We have successfully functionalized 5 layers of TCVD-grown graphene by photoassisted transfer hydrogenation reaction with formic acid, in order to increase its nonlinear optical response and laser-induced damage resilience. Using the functionalized graphene samples, we were able to fully characterize sub-10 fs ultrashort laser pulses using THG dispersion-scan, with results that are in excellent ag…

The dependence of the actual/effective ionic concentration on the nominal salt concentration is experimentally investigated for aqueous solutions of NaCl and KCl. The actual ionic bulk density is determined by means of the impedance spectroscopy technique using two approaches for the data analysis: A first approach scrutinizing the real part's plateau of the cell's electric impedance spectrum versus the bulk density of dopant when the impedance is written in the series representation. A second one via extraction of the ionic density from simultaneously fitting of the real and imaginary parts of the impedance spectrum by using the Poisson-Nernst-Planck model. The validity of this procedure reposes on the hypothesis that both the diffusion coefficient and the dielectric constant are independent from the salt concentration in the explored range of concentrations. Our experimental results indicate that a first-order reaction describes well the dissociation phenomenon. The dissociation-association ratio of the reaction has been calculated. Deviations from linearity appear at rather low concentrations of the order of mM.

Abstract:
We present a Raman spectroscopy investigation of the vibrational properties of L-histidine crystals at low temperatures. The temperature dependence of the spectra show discontinuities at 165 K, which we identify with modifications in the bonds associated to both the NH3+ and CO2- motifs indicative of a conformational phase transition that changes the intermolecular bonds. Additional evidence of su…

Additional evidence of such a phase transition was provided by differential scanning calorimetry measurements, which identified an enthalpic anomaly at ~165 K.

Abstract:
We report a statistical analysis over more than eight thousand songs. Specifically, we investigate the probability distribution of the normalized sound amplitudes. Our findings seems to suggest a universal form of distribution which presents a good agreement with a one-parameter stretched Gaussian. We also argue that this parameter can give information on music complexity, and consequently it goes…

We report a statistical analysis over more than eight thousand songs. Specifically, we investigate the probability distribution of the normalized sound amplitudes. Our findings seems to suggest a universal form of distribution which presents a good agreement with a one-parameter stretched Gaussian. We also argue that this parameter can give information on music complexity, and consequently it goes towards classifying songs as well as music genres. Additionally, we present statistical evidences that correlation aspects of the songs are directly related with the non-Gaussian nature of their sound amplitude distributions.

The Geopark Araripe, located in Northeastern Brazil, is the first UNESCO Natural Park in the South hemisphere and a world-famous fossil deposit of the Early Cretaceous period (approximately 120 million years). Fossilized fish fauna in Geopark Araripe is found inside of sedimentary rocks in three-dimensional forms. In the present study sedimentary rocks and fossil fish Rhacolepis bucalis have been carefully analysed by means of X-ray powder diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and termogravimetric analysis. Mineralogical composition of the fossil fish was explained in terms of facts occurred at the initial stages of the opening of the South Atlantic and the oceanic hydrothermal phenomena (``black smoker'', ``white smoker'' and warm-water events). The occurrence of organic substance was, for the first time, evaluated in collapsed internal elements (intestinal and muscles) by termogravimetric analysis.
