Gamze Ar
My name is Gamze Ar, and I was born on January 24th, 1994, in Ankara. I completed my Bachelor's degree in American Culture and Literature at Hacettepe University in 2017. Additionally, I hold a second Bachelor's degree in International Relations from Anadolu University, where I also had the opportunity to study abroad as an Erasmus student at Paris8 University for six months during the fall semester of 2014-2015. I also pursued a minor degree in Sociology at Hacettepe University. Currently, I am pursuing a Ph.D. in American Culture and Literature at Ege University. My research interests span African American children's literature, diplomacy within international relations, and cultural and social issues explored through literature.
Subsequently, I earned my Master's degree in American Culture and Literature from Ege University, during which I had another Erasmus experience, this time at Dortmund Technic University, where I spent six months while writing my thesis. This experience allowed me to integrate various international sources into my research. Prior to pursuing my current doctoral studies in the same field at Ege University, I worked as an English teacher for five years in Ankara and Izmir, and completed an English teaching internship for two months in Essen, Germany. To support my doctoral research, I spent six months as a visiting scholar at the Department of Teaching and Learning at New York University from August 2023 to February 2024.
As a multifaceted academic, I have developed an interdisciplinary approach to learning, expanding my knowledge in fields such as diplomacy, cultural and social relations, and English language, literature, and culture. My work covers a wide range of topics, including analyzing literature through theoretical and cultural lenses, exploring ethnic autobiography, and ecocritical readings of contemporary texts. I have also presented my research at numerous international conferences, showcasing my findings on sustainability, cultural translation, and feminist perspectives in literature and media. Currently, I am an instructor at Bartın University, where I teach preparatory courses to students, including Mythology, Words and Images, and Words and Images Through Diverse Literatures courses.
