Political relations between the Republic of Venice, which took an active role in trade in the Eastern Mediterranean, and the Ottoman Empire, varied throughout the 16th century. However, despite all these political tensions and wars, even though economic relations were interrupted for a short time, they continued from where they left off in the end. In this study, the general course of the Ottoman Venetian trade in the Mediterranean in the 16th century was examined in the context of political events and environmental factors. Ottoman documents in the Ottoman archives and studies in the literature have been a guide in this regard.

Since the Republic of Venice could not be a land state due to the geography it was located, it made its living maritime and in time turned into a large maritime state. The Turks, who entered Anatolia during the Seljuk period, were seriously interested in maritime and maritime trade for the first time in their history, during the Anatolian Seljuk period, and then during the Western Anatolian Principalities and Ottomans. The Venetians, who were at the peak of their power with the penetration of the Turks into the influence of the Republic of Venice in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean, will regulate their political and commercial activities in the region according to the changing conditions.
