Designing and implementing network processors requires a new programming paradigm and an in-depth understanding of network processing requirements. This book leads the reader through the requirements and the underlying theory of networks, network processing, and network processors. It covers implementation of network processors and intergrates EZchip Microcode Development Environment so that you can gain hands-on experience in writing high-speed networking applications. By the end of the book, the reader will be able to write and test applications on a simulated network processor.Comprehensive, theoretical, and pracitical coverage of networks and high-speed networking applicationsDescirbes contemporary core, metro, and access networks and their processing algorithmsCovers network processor architectures and programming models, enabling readers to assess t...

As grids are aggregation of computer clusters based on high performance local networks and interconnected by very high speed core networks, access links to core networks remain bottleneck locations. In order to optimize grid computing overall performance, we propose to organize data transfers from one cluster to an other. This organization must allow ressource schedulers to schedule data transferts in addition of tasks. Based on a grid network resource reservation model this paper presents the design f a grid gateway, located at the LAN/WAN interface. To implement this approach, we have develop a prototype based on Network Processors Intel IXP2400 which is able to control flows at 1 gigabits/s. We discuss the main design choices and experimental results

Noise measurement is considered the fundamental means to evaluate, enforce, validate, and control noise abatement. Noise measurements performed by sound monitors located close to urban airports are often disrupted by urban background noise that interferes with aircraft sounds. Detecting aircraft noise, classifying, identifying, and separating it from the residual background noise is a challenge for unattended aircraft noise monitors. This paper suggests a simple and inexpensive methodology, based on ADS-B (Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast), which can facilitate isolating aircraft noise from background noise. Experiments showed that using ADS-B driven noise monitors is at least as accurate as the commonly used radar–driven noise monitors, in terms of true positive, false positive, or false negative detection during the examined periods.

In the battle for a better quality of life, wellbeing, and health, aircraft noise models are essential for noise abatement, control, enforcement, evaluation, policy-making, and shaping the entire aviation industry. Aircraft noise models calculate noise and exposure levels based on aircraft types, engines and airframes, aircraft flight paths, environment factors, and more. Validating the aircraft noise model is a mandatory step towards the model credibility, especially when these models play such a key role with a huge impact on society, economy, and public health. Yet, no validation procedure was offered, and it turns out to be a challenging task. The actual, measured, aircraft noise level is known to be subject to statistical variation, even for the same aircraft type at the same situation and flight phase, executing the sam...
