Peter Browning
I am a Quirk "Languages of the Future" Postdoctoral Fellow at the Institute of Advanced Studies, University College London where I research Queer Colombians in the UK's lived experience of language.
I have previously worked as a Lecturer (Teaching) in Applied Linguistics at University College London; Associate Lecturer in English Language and Linguistics at the University of Westminster; an Associate Lecturer in Sociocultural Linguistics at Goldsmiths, University of London; an Associate Lecturer in English Studies at Middlesex University and a Lecturer in Language Education (English) at the Universidad Catolica de Oriente.
I am broadly interested in the intersections of language, culture and society. I take special interest in: language policy; language education; language and political economy; bi- & multilingualism and the emerging field of language and place.
My current research sets out to account for the spatialised-dynamics of the contemporary world (processes such as gentrification, urbanisation, migration, exile, etc.) with an understanding of both time and space as discursively organised categories.
I am also a Teaching Fellow in Applied Linguistics and TESOL in the department of Linguistics and Communication.
Supervisors: Miguel Pérez-Milans
