Innovation in operations and delivery is needed as a strategic tool in the design and emergence of a revitalised organisation. This work recommends processes and actions the charity must adopt to achieve this aim.

This adversely affects their quality of life. Nurses, through care planning, play a key role in addressing these challenges. A critical appraisal of 10 primary research articles was conducted to gain an empirical insight into ostomates’ perspectives of how their care could be better planned and delivered. The appraisal emphasised on the research methods deployed to gauge the quality of the articles’ findings and the extent to which these could be incorporated into the aims of this literature review. Three emergent themes were discussed and their implications for care planning translated into recommendations for care planning for ostomates in order to deliver holistic care. The findings indicated that activities of daily living, body image and sexual health are the key areas in which ostomates require additional support. This work suggests ways in which care planning can enable nurses become a part of an effective clinical solution to what is an increasing healthcare demand. Further research is needed into psychological stressors and in-hospital challenges of ostomates to ensure positive care experiences and outcomes.

The service improvement proposal will utilise a change management model which will catalyse its effective implementation.
