Skala is the designer’s design tool. It respects the long history and conventions established by classic design tools, while radically pushing the boundaries of what is possible.

Readers of our design articles know how important performance, rendering quality, and resource usage are to us. Skala will be one of the fastest tools of its kind. Skala’s document format will be an open specification, and documents can be stored in Git repos, just like our design system manager, Pinwheel. Skala’s color picker supports OKLCH and OKLAB, as well as other formats.

Skala’s guides are layers. Each guide has a name, color, and opacity. They can be organised in groups, letting multiple guides be toggled off and on in unison. Being layers, they act like layers. Guides can be copied between documents and easily transformed. Yes, you can select multiple guides and move, rotate, or shear them together.

Skala does a lot of cool, unique, and useful things. We will be ready to share more details soon.
