While most of the river is calm, flat water, there are also whitewater rapids for more adventurous boaters. You’ll pass beautiful rock formations, cliffs, lush forests, and maybe even some reclusive wildlife.
Summersville Lake Summersville Lake is one of the best-known state parks in West Virginia. The enormous lake was constructed in the 1960s and has become a hugely popular spot for swimming, climbing, fishing, and boating. Boat rentals are available here, whether you’re planning on sightseeing, angling, or even scuba diving in the crystal clear waters! With 2,700 acres of water, the reservoir has tons to explore — from sandy beaches to stunning rock formations and more. The area’s famous cliffs are open for climbing, offering a stunning view of the lake from 70 feet in the air. Summersville Lake State Park is also home to West Virginia’s only operating lighthouse, another popular tourist attraction.
