This paper is an analysis of Paper Mario Color Splash an action-adventure video game developed by... more This paper is an analysis of Paper Mario Color Splash an action-adventure video game developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo for the Wii U.[1] The game was released worldwide in October 2016 as part of the Paper Mario series. This research will use an MDA framework to analyse the game ( MIT). Then it will analyse two sequences in the game through a socio-cultural and cultural rhetorical lens. It will be argued that as this game is designed for 8+ that diversity and gender bias should be addressed. When you choose to target a young audience that ethical and moral considerations should always be addressed especially those of a sexist nature.

In this study I will support my definition of what agency is in relation to digital games by looking at the work of theorists such as Janet Murray, Justin Parsler, Wardrip & Fruin, Tanya Krzywinska among others.
